Playground in the Park, then Around Town, Saturday Afternoon

There were still signs up around the island directing guests as to where to assemble for the Very Special Student Council Island Tour. Quinn waited at the appointed spot, dressed in a red jacket to make herself easier to spot and carrying a megaphone because megaphones were fun.

She passed out maps to anyone she could convince to take the tour. She was afraid of what might happen if a guest got lost.

"Hey," Quinn said through the megaphone, once it seemed like she'd gotten the group she was going to get. "Thanks for taking the island tour. I'm Student Council Co-President Quinn Fabray. I've been on the island for about a year and a half, but I'm originally from Ohio."

She hoped at least some of the guests had heard of Ohio.

"We're going to go on a quick walk around the island to see the sights.I'm sure you've been hearing bits and pieces about it from your loved one for months; here's a chance to see what we're talking about." She took a step backwards. "And let's go."

"Right, so this is Apocalypse Avenue," Quinn said, as she started walking. "We're passing the clinic, an art gallery, a new-age shop, the coffee shop -- no Starbucks here! -- and Caritas, which is a totally safe and appropriate hang-out with a costumed band." she figured people might owe her for that one.

"If yo peek further down the side streets, you'll see town's older business district on the streets toward the school."

"and after we turn at Caritas, we're on Griffin Way, which leads back to the school. We're passing some houses, the bowling alley and pool hall, and the post office. If you look to your left, you'll see the part of the island we call the 'rocky bits.' See if you can figure out why."

"Okay, so most of what you can see right now is some mansions and more of the rocky bits, but if you look up the hill you can see the school. Our classes are in the castle -- almost as thrilling as it sounds -- and the other large building is the dorms. You'll get to see the stables when we go to campus at the end of the tour."

"This is the town's newer business district. There's a sushi restaurant, an Outback Steakhouse, a couple other restaurants, a jewelry shop ... law office, pet shop, and now we're coming up on the abandoned warehouse district, which is strangely popular with some of the students."

After they turned onto Galactica and headed back towards the school, she added, "The large hill to your right is called Selkie Peak. I didn't name it."

"We're going to walk through the school grounds now. All of the students live in these dorms. We're on the second through the fifth floors; the sixth floor was remodeled a few years ago and now has a deluxe kitchen and a ball pit. Besides the bedrooms, every floor has a common room with a small kitchen, where somebody's usually cooking something for everybody. The small building is the salle and gun range, where some students practice their ... sport-shooting and fencing. and if you look off to the left, you can see the preserve, which is a large wooded area. They were ... unfortunately demolished last summer, but there used to be a camping area with cabins back in there."

She stepped quicker. "The preserves are also known for some of the island's more unique wildlife, known as teal deer. One's right over there looking at me now!"

"As we leave campus, you can see the island's community center, which offers babysitting and evening classes for the island's adult residents. We'll also pass more houses and, if you look up Sphinx Street, you can see the island's non=-denominational church."

"As you can see, the park has a large pond with a variety of birds ... and now we're back where we started. I hope that wasn't too much walking for you! Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, and don't forget to join us at the recital in a bit."

Sorry this was up so late; my day got eaten.
