Princess Convention: Registration and Banquet

The convention hall was a flurry of activity as everyone made sure that everything was just right for the royal visitors coming to Fandom this weekend. One thoughtful staff member had even posted a sign outside which read "No Krakens Allowed."

The hall was decorated in nice fall colors and a large buffet had been set up for their royal highness to peruse. Or have their servants peruse.

Really there's just a lot of opportunities to peruse.

Princess Con is Open! And open to the public.

Yes there is a registration desk for all their royal highnesses to check in.

They would also be greeted upon entrance with an NPC musician who play a fanfare on his trumpet.

Isn't that a nice touch?

Oh the tables are filled with all sorts of wonderful foods to delight the palate!

Hopefully it meets with everyone's royal approval!

Yes. Of course there's booze. Everything from mead to hard alcohol is available for everyone to partake.

Though hopefully the royal visitors will know to be moderate in their drinking.

Luna wasn't certain to what to make of the strange creatures this island seemed to be full of, but she refused to let it show on her face. This was less a matter of royal training as it was a matter of Luna being shy and not wanting to draw too much attention to herself.

She checked in, sighing when she saw the schedule. Celestia had signed her up to run a panel. And the ponies of Equestria wondered how Luna had gone evil and insane.

Luna nibbled at a pastry, wondering how much of the food she didn't recognize was because of the strange bipedal creatures, and how much was because she'd been trapped on the moon for a thousand years.

"...You really don't want to toot that anywhere near me," Marceline said with a side-eye as she entered. She didn't exactly look the princess type. Long flowing black hair, a gray pallor to her skin, two little bite marks on her neck... and she was wearing a red and black striped shirt that probably came from Old Navy.

Or would have been if they still had Old Navys in the post-apocalyptic world.

Marceline checked in, and smirked just a little. This would be fun. Not because she was into the princess thing, oh no, she was a queen. It'd be fun because there would be so many princesses to mess with.

Marceline picked up a strawberry and fed on it.

...Leaving a completely white strawberry she put back on the buffet table. Hey, she only needed the color.

Danielle was delighted to be here. She hadn't expected a place so... modern, when she received the invitation. Everything sparkled! The lights glowed without flickering! It was amazing.

The fanfare almost didn't startle her; she was getting used to that sort of thing. She signed the register.

Her Royal Highness the Princess Consort of France, Danielle de Valois

Danielle was determined to try everything, absolutely everything, so she was taking tiny bites of each thing and asking the waiters what some of the foods were. Also, the wine was good (not as good as that created in Barbarac, but perhaps she was just homesick) but the new drinks were so sweet, and they bubbled.

She would never leave the table, she knew it!

Danielle caught herself staring at ... a purple unicorn. A purple unicorn.

Where was Leonardo when she needed him to draw something?! He would be devastated he'd missed this!

Melora was still sort of riding the high of not being anywhere near her loving but thick father, and her "Aunt" Tamenella. She wished she'd been able to bring her little frog friend with her to translate, but it had been hard enough getting leave to come. Explaining why she wanted to bring a talking frog with her would have taken too long.

She signed the register;

And then she sighed. "Lleary?" she asked the universe. With some arrows added she indicated as best she could what she'd meant to write.

A lot of the food was somewhat simpler than Melora was used to, but she didn't let that stop her from sampling it. Besides it would be unlady-like to complain.

She did eye some of the food curiously, as she had never seen pizza or burgers before.

Gasp! A unicorn! A real unicorn!

"Bou're yeautiful!" Melora blurted out.

A purple unicorn with wings, even.

Luna looked up as though sensing the staring. Really, it was as though this creature had never seen a pegasus-unicorn princess before.

Luna looked around, wondering if this creature was speaking to someone else. She didn't appear to be, though.

"No," Luna corrected gently. "My name is Princess Luna."

"Oh, I'm so sorry." She knew as a princess she was never supposed to apologize, but surely there were exceptions of creatures of wonder? "I don't mean to be rude, but you're so beautiful." Then she paused, and laughed at herself. "And I'm assuming you can understand me because you're here at this banquet, but I don't even know if you speak French or if you can understand me or if you're some other princesses beloved steed or anything!"

"Oh!" Luna said, looking startled. "You speak the same way we do in Equestria!" That was unexpected. She hadn't been sure these creatures would be intelligent. "Thank you. You're . . . very lovely, too."

It wasn't a lie, it was just that to Luna, Danielle and the others looked so weird.

[well that was an awkward error!]

[hee, didn't see anything! *handwaves*]

"You do speak, hello!" Danielle dipped her head a little in greeting, and since they were already speaking, introduced herself. "Princess Danielle of France. Whom do I have the pleasure of addressing? And I have never heard of Equestria. Is that where violet pegasus-unicorns come from? Is it very far away?"

Luna bowed in return. "Princess Luna. I'm Princess Celestia's younger sister. You mean you've really never heard of Equestria?" That boggled the mind. "We have all sorts of ponies there, in many different colors." As for Danielle's last question, Luna considered it carefully. "It's not as far as the moon."

"If you have been to the moon, I shall be overcome with questions and pester you all evening. So I pray you, if you have, do not tell me yet," Danielle said with grave solemnity. Then she smiled. "Princess Luna. I have never heard of it, or of ponies which speak. In France, the only ponies and horses we have are mute beasts, and we care for them as pets or companions, but can not hold conversations with them."

Luna looked vaguely horrified. It was a bit like hearing someone say they came from a world where humans were kept as pets, incapable of communicating with their "owners".

"I hope you won't be offended if I say I would rather not visit France."

"I can not blame you. I think it should be very lonely for you there," Danielle said soberly. "But I think I would very much like to visit Equestria! As much as the moon. Are there any humans like us there? Or perhaps only monkeys, which can not speak either, except to shriek and make gestures?"

Is that what she was? A human? "I've never seen any. We have a lot of creatures, but we work together with them to live in harmony." Or sometimes steal their land, but that wasn't Luna's fault.
