Princess Convention: Registration and Banquet

The convention hall was a flurry of activity as everyone made sure that everything was just right for the royal visitors coming to Fandom this weekend. One thoughtful staff member had even posted a sign outside which read "No Krakens Allowed."

The hall was decorated in nice fall colors and a large buffet had been set up for their royal highness to peruse. Or have their servants peruse.

Really there's just a lot of opportunities to peruse.

Princess Con is Open! And open to the public.

[OCD is up! Enjoy! No Krakens Allowed! Sorry!]

Luna wasn't certain to what to make of the strange creatures this island seemed to be full of, but she refused to let it show on her face. This was less a matter of royal training as it was a matter of Luna being shy and not wanting to draw too much attention to herself.

She checked in, sighing when she saw the schedule. Celestia had signed her up to run a panel. And the ponies of Equestria wondered how Luna had gone evil and insane.

"...You really don't want to toot that anywhere near me," Marceline said with a side-eye as she entered. She didn't exactly look the princess type. Long flowing black hair, a gray pallor to her skin, two little bite marks on her neck... and she was wearing a red and black striped shirt that probably came from Old Navy.

Or would have been if they still had Old Navys in the post-apocalyptic world.

Marceline checked in, and smirked just a little. This would be fun. Not because she was into the princess thing, oh no, she was a queen. It'd be fun because there would be so many princesses to mess with.

Danielle was delighted to be here. She hadn't expected a place so... modern, when she received the invitation. Everything sparkled! The lights glowed without flickering! It was amazing.

The fanfare almost didn't startle her; she was getting used to that sort of thing. She signed the register.

Her Royal Highness the Princess Consort of France, Danielle de Valois

Melora was still sort of riding the high of not being anywhere near her loving but thick father, and her "Aunt" Tamenella. She wished she'd been able to bring her little frog friend with her to translate, but it had been hard enough getting leave to come. Explaining why she wanted to bring a talking frog with her would have taken too long.

She signed the register;

Mincess Prelora

And then she sighed. "Lleary?" she asked the universe. With some arrows added she indicated as best she could what she'd meant to write.

A banquet. How terribly... quaint.

Loki shot a look at the terrible little man with the trumpet before walking past. No, he did not sign the registrar.

Duck nearly jumped out of her skin at the unexpected musical fanfare. She gave the trumpet player an embarrassed kind of smile before hurrying (not running, never running; she didn't want to crash into anything and break stuff/annoy people not even five minutes into this convention thing) down to the registration desk.

She waffled for a long moment about which name to use before just signing Duck in the register.

She wasn't terribly sure what this whole convention thing was about, really, but when a semi-omnipotent, questionably-dead, weird old Author shoves you through one of his narrative portals and tells you to learn something, who are you to object?

The trumpet was actually just the sort of thing that Amelia, princess of Seyruun, was used to hearing! Well, at least at home, or when she was off playing diplomat on official business. Which was... less often than usual, these days, because official business was difficult to follow up on when you fell in with the sort of crowd that she seemed to be spending more and more time with...

Through no fault of her own! Miss Lina and Mr. Gourry were just difficult people to avoid!

... Not that she was trying!

Oh, brother. She was going to just check in and look over the schedule for the weekend. That sounded like a good idea.

All of Cimorene's protocol training wasn't enough to stop her from grimacing at the fanfare. Her sisters would have loved it; Cimorene thought it was rather gaudy. If she'd needed a musical entrance, wouldn't a flute or some pipes served just as well? It wasn't like Linderwall was large enough to justify trumpets.

Just like her parents to send her to something like this. Really.

After Crystal's attempt to flirt with the NPC musician didn't work out very well, she moved on to the registration desk, looking a little irked for a moment before shrugging. Oh, well, plenty of fish in the sea. She signed Crystalia Amaquelin to the registry and moved on, looking around. Maybe some of the other princesses had brought boyfriends she could steal steal.

Luna nibbled at a pastry, wondering how much of the food she didn't recognize was because of the strange bipedal creatures, and how much was because she'd been trapped on the moon for a thousand years.

Danielle caught herself staring at ... a purple unicorn. A purple unicorn.

Where was Leonardo when she needed him to draw something?! He would be devastated he'd missed this!

Gasp! A unicorn! A real unicorn!

"Bou're yeautiful!" Melora blurted out.

All things considered, Duck wasn't too surprised to see a magical talking pegasus-unicorn at the party.

She was, however, rather surprised (and just a little bit scandalized, not that she'd own up to it) to see a naked magical talking pegasus-unicorn, since pretty much all the talking animals in her town were fully-dressed bipeds, regardless of species.

Cautiously (and trying very hard to keep her eyes from staring at anything ... indecent) she approached the pony to make conversation.

"So are you a guest here, too?" she asked.

Marceline picked up a strawberry and fed on it.

...Leaving a completely white strawberry she put back on the buffet table. Hey, she only needed the color.

Danielle was determined to try everything, absolutely everything, so she was taking tiny bites of each thing and asking the waiters what some of the foods were. Also, the wine was good (not as good as that created in Barbarac, but perhaps she was just homesick) but the new drinks were so sweet, and they bubbled.

She would never leave the table, she knew it!

[identity profile] wackbardsmelora.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Melora had likewise tried asking the servants what some of the foods were, to no avail. They just looked at her blankly like she was speaking a strange language.

But when she tried one of the dark bubbling drinks she smiled broadly. "Gat's dood."

Re: Banquet!

[identity profile] wackbardsmelora.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of the food was somewhat simpler than Melora was used to, but she didn't let that stop her from sampling it. Besides it would be unlady-like to complain.

She did eye some of the food curiously, as she had never seen pizza or burgers before.

Duck felt a little out of her league. The hall looked so pretty, and all the other princesses looked so classy and proper. How could she ever hope to compare?

She quickly grabbed a tray of food from the buffet, purposefully avoiding all the poultry dishes, and tried to find a good spot in the room. She wished she'd worn something fancier. She wished she had something fancier to wear.

She kept nervously rubbing her ruby pendent every now and then. Just in case.

The food on the table made Cimorene wish her cooking lessons hadn't ended just after cherries jubilee. Much of the food was foreign and exotic, things she'd never even heard of, never mind tasted before. Maybe if she'd had more training, she could have figured out how to make similar treats back home.

Well, training, ingredients, and enough time to experiment before her mother found out. But the banquet alone might be worth coming to a princess convention.

Re: Banquet!

[identity profile] justiceprincess.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Amelia was well aware that she was on a diplomatic mission, of course, to reach the benevolent hand of Seyruun out toward the world, in order to form strong, peaceful bonds with people from all kingdoms, everywhere!

Amelia had also found the banquet table, and there were some habits that were difficult to break, even while trying to look all diplomatic about things, after so long on the road with Miss Lina and Mr. Gourry.

Her plate was heaped high with anything and everything that she could get her hands on. And if she looked as though she was hunkering over it and ready to snatch it up and run for dear life, that was mostly because that was exactly what was going on.
