Princess Convention: Registration and Banquet

The convention hall was a flurry of activity as everyone made sure that everything was just right for the royal visitors coming to Fandom this weekend. One thoughtful staff member had even posted a sign outside which read "No Krakens Allowed."

The hall was decorated in nice fall colors and a large buffet had been set up for their royal highness to peruse. Or have their servants peruse.

Really there's just a lot of opportunities to peruse.

Princess Con is Open! And open to the public.

[OCD is up! Enjoy! No Krakens Allowed! Sorry!]

"I don't," Cimorene said, her face falling slightly. "It's improper, for the most part. State visits, aside, of course, in which case we hardly stay in inns. It's more carriage rides to noble estates with my parents and six sisters."

She made a moue of distaste. "It's all embroidery and small talk and 'Cimorene, your stitches are crooked' and 'Cimorene, you should read something lighter, like a nice romance.'"

Oh. Oh my.

"My Daddy was never very worried about what is and isn't 'proper,' quite that way," she offered. "He taught me manners, and about peace and justice, and how to negotiate treaties with other kingdoms. But I don't remember ever being forced to do embroidery."

"That's all my parents worry about," Cimorene said. "Whether or not something is proper. Whether or not it's 'done' by princesses." She envied Amelia a bit at that. Her parents would NEVER let her learn about justice or treaty negotiations. "Princess don't do a lot of things, apparently."

The waiter returned with two more glasses of ale. Cimorene looked at them and the beginnings of a slow smile crept over her face.

"Like getting drunk on ale the first night of a princess convention."

Amelia wasn't going to do it! She'd already said so! And yet... And yet, her heart went out to Miss Cimorene, whose parents obviously didn't understand her the way her own Daddy knew Amelia.

And so, there she went, grabbing that glass of ale and raising it into the air. She was posing again. It was kind of her... thing.

"Well, the ale is here to be drank, and your parents aren't! I think the first night of a princess convention is the best night to make certain our hosts know that their hospitality is appreciated!"

Daddy would be so proud!

It would be undiplomatic of Amelia to make Cimorene drink alone!

"It would be rude for us to turn up our noses at their fine offerings," Cimorene said, toasting Amelia and her pose. "And I can't think of a better way to start a convention than by making friends!"

With booze, yay!

Very tasty booze! There was no losing, in this situation!

"Neither can I! Shall we drink again to friendship? And to... open minds, and our hosts, and to... to drinking!"

Yes! To drinking!

"Definitely to drinking and open minds," Cimorene said. She felt giddy and excited, almost like her whole body was buzzing. She'd seen drunk people before, and most of them had seemed more interested in falling asleep and slurring their speech. Cimorene had never felt more clear. Her thoughts were racing at a mile a minute. "And fizziness and new beverages and sugar and friends."
