Fandom had been very, very quiet all week. Almost too quiet. The kind of quiet that led to strange balancing of things all around him. That was probably why two of his droids decided it would be fun to try knife fighting. Of course, their bodies were much stronger than their knives, so they had to keep grabbing new knives before Zayne broke things up. He'd need to get new knives tomorrow.

Today's Special:
Soup. Just not any kind with things that need to be chopped up.

Okay, that was definitely different. "Soup that doesn't require anything being cut up? Isn't that called broth?" he asked as he sat down.

"Not necessarily. We have noodles, small vegetables, stuff like that," Zayne said. "But unfortunately we're in the middle of an unexpected knife shortage in the kitchen."

"I hope it's not due to mutant alligators or something like that," he replied with a shrug. "Or gremlins. I always hated the gremlins."

"Bored droids working in the kitchen. They decided to take up knifefighting, but their plating is too strong," Zayne offered. "At least I know they can take a little bit of punishment if necessary."

"Hey, that's always good to know." Jon paused and then grinned. "Jon O'Neill. Didn't we take classes here at the same time?"

"Yeah. I think we had one or two together," Zayne said as recognition set in. "Zayne Carrick. How've you been?"

"Not too bad. I was kind of forced into coming back to Fandom, but I wasn't exactly kicking and screaming about it." He nodded towards the window and grinned. "What's with the new addition out there."

"It showed up after one of those weird weekends and stuck around. The guy I was that weekend died before it happened, so I can't tell you more than that," Zayne said. "It looks a lot nicer now than it did even yesterday, though."

The fact that that sentence actually made sense to Jon, was a little scary. "It does add something to the place, I will say that."

Besides the giant nanny squid thing.

"So, who's running the apartments now? I'm going to need a place to stay."

"Fraser, the former school security guy? He runs MHA. But I actually run MCA and I have a few vacancies," Zayne said. "A few on the higher floors, and one in the sub-basement, just in case you prefer not to have natural lighting."

"I like natural lighting. Windows are good things," Jon answered. He really like throwing people out of them when the situation called for it.

"A one bedroom would be cool if you have it."

"If a third floor apartment works for you, I think I have the perfect place," Zayne said. "If you can handwavily meet me over at the building after my shift here, I can give you a tour, see if you like it."

"Sounds good. It should give me time to wander around some more, poke into things."

"See how things have changed since you've been here last?" Zayne asked. "I was away for a year after graduation, so I kind of know how that goes."

"For me, it's been six years," Jon said after some thought. "I don't know how long it's been in Fandom time though."
