Dite's Decadent Delights, Wednesday Afternoon

Normally, Karla didn't work on Wednesdays, but Raven had had a brilliant idea yesterday, and Karla was loathe to let another minute go to waste on it.

So after an hour with a large roll of paper and some colored glitter, Karla was able to hang up a huge banner on the front window of 'Dite's announcing a contest!

Help us name 'Dite's new mascot! First and second runner up gets a 15% discount off their next purchase! Grand Prize winner gets their pick of the store's merchandise, up to $75! MULTIPLE ENTRIES ALLOWED!

After putting up the ballot box, Karla dusted off her hands and looking rather smug at a job well-done. Best. Investment. Ever. She patted the store's newest edition and headed back inside. "Ouch!" she said, looking down at her scratched palm. "Careful, that chicken will cut you."

Kenzi had to come in when she saw that. "Roger. Willy! Dick! Dick the Cock!"

Classy girl, Kenzi.

Karla laughed at that and held out some paper and a phallic-shaped novelty pen. "Write them down!" she said. "And put them in the ballot box outside. Don't forget to leave your name if you want to win!"

"I can think of so many things to buy," Kenzi said with glee and a total lack of shame taking the pen, giving it an experimental shake, then grinning as she wrote down her suggestions. "I can come back and put in more suggestions, right?"

"Absolutely!" Karla said, kicking back behind the counter. "The more times you enter, the better the odds you'll win!"

Or something like that.

"Of course, if you're looking for a permanent discount, 'Dite's is always hiring."

Kenzi did not look like someone who'd hyperventilate at the thought of working at the store. And they could use a few more staff members.

"Hmmmmmmm." Kenzi looked curious and considering. Despite her allergy to work, this place looked like it might be fun. "How... hard, is the work?" she asked with a cherubic smile.

Karla just gestured to where she was leaning back in her chair. "Pretty exhausting," she said. "I mean, today, I had to make a banner. And find the fun pens I knew we had. That meant going into the back room and then coming back out here."

Terrible, Kenzi. Just terrible.

"And how much does it pay? And you said 'discount'?" Kenzi was already thinking of the kind of fun she could have with this, teasing Topher and Miley and Wes and Toby and ... ooh, maybe she'd find something to thrill Sam in here!

"Employee discount is a flat 25% off of whatever," Karla said. "And the pay..." She shrugged. Neither she nor 'Dite had ever really figured out 'minimum wage.' "Ummm...$10 an hour sound fair?"

Though, to be fair, she really ought to let Kenzi know what the job entailed. "You have to clean up your own messes," she warned. "And I might ask you to make a display or something with the merchandise. Though anything that's opened to make a display, I guess you can take home at a higher discount when the display's over."

Not like they could sell it after that.

"Fridays work for you?" She could always use a little seed money for other ventures. And this looked amusing enough that she could see working here part-time for free-- well, almost.

"Friday's are great," Karla said, not even bothering to check the schedule. Right now, it was her and Raven working on Mondays and Tuesdays. Fitting Kenzi in would not be a problem. "Wanna start this week? I can pop by Friday and give you a quick rundown on how the store works."

Like the semi-sentient cash register and the office which occasionally redecorated itself.

"Cool. Oh, hey, uh, this wouldn't be before ten, would it? I work at Caritas, Thursday nights." A hungover Kenzi might be happening sometimes. Or just a sleepy one.

Karla gave her a horrified look. "Does Raven open the store before ten?" she asked. "Because, no. Just no. The store isn't supposed to open until one. At the earliest. The shift usually goes until nine, but if there's something cool going on, I don't mind you closing up earlier or something."

Seriously. Come in before ten. What madness was this?!?

"Then I am your girl!" Kenzi said, now even more cheerful. "Do I call you Boss Lady now? Jefe'? Ms. Karla?"

"Grand High Mistress Karla is good," Karla said thoughtfully. "But, you know, Karla also works."

If Karla didn't go around insisting people use her actual title, why would she bother with one at work?

"Then thanks for the offer, and I'll be here early-ish for my shift on Friday!"

"Get some early shopping in?" Karla teased. "Looking forward to seeing you then!"

Damn. What a good day today was turning out to be!

Today, Mini-Morton seems almost...confused.
