The Boards, Sunday [All Day]

So there was this building. And Troy kind of owned it now. Well. Ryan Evans owned it, really, no matter that Troy's name was on it, but Troy was good with that. Because this building?

Was a theatre.

After getting the keys, Troy unlocked the front door and walked in, deciding just to sit in the audience for a little bit, basking in that 'this theatre is mine!' sense before starting to figure out what kind of renovations and repairs it might need. Or that he might want. Having a rich friend to bankroll everything? Now that Troy'd gotten used to it, kind of awesome. He'd been in the Boards before, sure, but this? Was completely different.

The front door was hanging open a little, and music -- after Troy found the sound booth -- was playing out into the street.

[No OCD. Expecting one, but open to anyone who wants to come by and poke at this new guy in the Boards! Infopost on The Boards and upcoming shows (and other events!) within the next couple of days.]

Jono was out and about today. Brunches weren't particularly his thing, and, while he was contemplating perhaps stopping by there later just to see if he could see any familiar faces, he was going to put that off as long as humanly possible.

It was the music that caught him as he was walking down this particular street. He wasn't what one would consider a definitive fan of Jason Mraz or anything, but he had a good ear for music, and that...

//That,// he mused, peering curiously in through the open door, //is not Jason Mraz.//

Mute audiophile Jonothon Starsmore, ladies and gentlemen.

Sometimes, it was refreshing that the reaction to the telepathy was secondary to the conversation at hand.

//I might have to learn to navigate the internet a little better than I do,// Jono noted. //This bloke's got style.//

A beat.

//And yes. Yes I did. It's...// He waved a hand a little, looking for the proper words for it, and then sort of fell short. //... A medical condition. We don't talk about it. Touchy. You understand.//

He wasn't technically lying!

//Honestly...? I'm mostly just reminiscing. Taking a walk around town, boggling at how much things stay th'same around here when timelines are all cocked-up.// He inclined his chin (or lack thereof, shut up) toward the inside of the building. //I suppose here's the exception, then. Doing renovations, are you? Or just cleaning up after that last owner?//
furnaceface: (Told you so)

//Sets, hm? Already got a production in mind?// So help him, Jono was kind of peering inside. //This place has a good stage to it, I'll give it that. Excellent acoustics, if it didn't change any during that weekend where everybody lost their minds.// Pause. //One of those weekends, anyhow. Mind if I take a look?//

//Good plan,// Jono agreed, stepping inside and taking a look around. It hadn't changed much, yet. It was a little less garish than it had been on that weekend where he'd had the killer jaw and the ridiculous title. But all in all, still the Boards. //Bloody near everybody does the Bard to start. A shame, really. Leaves out so many other options.//

Musical theatre, for a start. Call Jonothon just a touch biased, in that regard.

//It isn't as though people stopped writing when Shakespeare did. And they hardly started there, either.//
furnaceface: (Very disappointed in you)

This guy's love of alliteration was certainly showing, yes.

//You know... I think you're actually th'first to even mention musical theatre around here? Practically a sin that it took so long, when you think about it. There's so much more to the performing arts than just delivering lines all th'time. Granted, this place would need a bit more work if you were to decide to adapt it for things besides acting, but, if you want my opinion,// which Troy hadn't asked for, but Jono was going to be happy to give regardless, //it would be work worth putting in, really.//

//Christ. When I was a student here, I would have killed for some place to play that wasn't Glee Club.//

... Nothing against Glee Club, of course. Jono was just as fond of them, but...

//I had to rig up a temporary stage in th'park out of bloody plywood. Now, there was a good time. It was cold out, too. We were aiming for a show on Bonfire Night.//

Stupid November.

//You need somebody to take a look at your equipment for you?//
furnaceface: (o_O)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2011-10-23 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
//I used to run the Groovy Tunes,// Jono shared, nodding toward the sound booth and starting off that way. //Spent hours just poring over catalogues, regretting that there wasn't any place on the island that would be interested in buying most of th'things I was looking at. I'm fairly certain I would have ordered in a little bit of all of it, if I thought for a second that we could make a sale.//

Not that he would have been too heartbroken at having that stuff sitting around the shop so that he could play with it, granted.

//Could probably recommend a few good brand names for you, work out some prices, let you know how much space you'll be nee-- oh, this is cute.//

He kind of wanted to reach out and pat the little soundboard that he'd walked in to see. Adequate for plays, certainly. But it made his inner musician want to curl up and weep a bit.

//Presumably, you could go through them,// Jono agreed. //Not certain who's running it at the moment. Last I checked, it had been left to Seifer...//

And Jono didn't dislike Seifer, but on a scale from one to helpful, he was also placing him squarely at negative ten.

//I'll tell you what,// he ventured, a moment later. //I'm currently working as a TA for a school in New York state, and the timeline goes pretty ridiculously fast there compared to here, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed time off now and again. I can give you my number- texts only- and when you get the equipment in, let me know. Even if I have to put it off for a few weeks, it should only be a couple of days, here. Name's Jonothon, by the way.//
furnaceface: (Crouch)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2011-10-23 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
//Please. Just because I live there doesn't mean it's home,// Jono countered, shaking his head a bit as he walked around the sound system, and then looked to see how the booth was doing for electrical outlets. //And I'm not exactly married to th'job. Mostly I'm just... biding my time until I can make myself useful somewhere, I think.//

He hadn't quite decided. For the time being, he was sort of content with teaching kids how to read and urging them to think for themselves. But there were so many differences between Xavier's philosophy and his own, it was almost unbearable at times to just sit around and listen to the lectures.

//'The music side of things or something,'// Jono echoed, shaking his head. //You'd be surprised just how tempting that offer really is, mate. Maybe in a few months, end of th'school year or something, I'll even think about taking you up on that.//

He was kind of painfully stubborn when it came to making a use for himself back in his own world. He'd seen too many people hurt, was too hell-bent on finding a way to help them...

//Hell, that'd only be a couple of weeks for you here, I imagine.//

That was still always a little surreal to come to terms with, yes.

... The time difference. Yes. Yes, it was absolutely about the time difference.

//If it comes down to it,// Jono agreed, taking the paper and looking it over for a moment before giving a decisive little nod and tucking it away into his pocket. //I'm not going to make any promises, mate. Things tend to go all pear-shaped back there whenever they bloody well feel like it, so something might come up, yet. But we'll see, certainly.//

Karla was a huge fan of the Boards and had been saddened each time it had closed. Which was why she was scampering over to peek inside as soon as she noticed someone moving around in there.

"Kiss kiss?" she called, poking her head into the door. "Hello?"
