Cafe Luke's, Monday

Vincent had the diner decorated up with loads of gourds and fall leaves. They were roped into garlands along the molding, lining the display cases in little circles, and crunching under foot.

What? The man liked a good theme.

Today's specials
Butternut squash ravioli
Apple stuffed acorn squash
Pumpkin muffins

Someone was in a squashy mood, today.

"Hey, Vince," Jack said with a grin as he entered the cafe. "Look who I found wandering around the island."

And said someone was a large grey fuzzy dog that Vincent should have no trouble recognizing.

Lojack barked happily in greeting and wagged his tail at Vincent. Hopefully this Vincent also liked to make gourmet dog snacks.

And because this is Lojack, he had a more sophisticated palate than JAck.

"Yep. He just showed up in the park the other day when I was jogging," Jack replied. "And he's been hanging here ever since. Can't figure out why he's here but he's not talking.

Lojack gave out a small whine. When was he going to get food?

Lojack barked happily and put up his paws up on the counter in happy anticipation.

Jack however paused a second before shrugging. "There's nothing funky in the pumpkin muffins, is there?" he asked cautiously.

Jack shrugged. "Sounds good. Can I get a cup of coffee too?" he asked as he sat down at a stool and watched LoJack savor the pate on the floor. "How's business by the way?"

"Well that's got to be a record for you," Jack said with chuckle. "Better knock on some wood though before something in Fandom messes with your streak of good luck."

"Well it's slightly last crazy than last semester," Jack admitted. "Of course this semester I don't have a class with a talking horse or doing a crazy obstacle course through foreign cities. Though I'm not sure how I ended up in a course learning how to steal stuff."

"Yeah. Her. She's... interesting," Jack said shaking his head. "It was like watching a hyperactive puppy who could talk. Except she was a pony."

It made sense in Jack's head.

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well who wouldn't?

"Yeah that seems to sum her up," Jack replied. "Don't get me wrong. Very nice for a talking pony. And I can't believe I said that with a straight face."

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"No! Not at all," Jack replied. "You see there's Eureka weird. Notch that up abit and you get Fandom weird. Notch that even higher and you have a pink talking horse who is very nice but excitable weird."

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Vince, in all your time in Eureka have you ever met a pink talking horse?" Jack asked seriously."And how could I be weird? Have you met me? I'm the most normal guy ever."

Except for the whole clone thing.

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's special. Weird is completely different. And after living in Eureka I should be an expert on weird."

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Jack frowned. "How about a burger?"

Sorry, Vincent.

Having decided to wander the island to see what had changed, Troy had to blink when he saw the new sign on what he'd thought was a diner.

"So this place has changed," he said, without preamble, when he wandered in. "At least, at some point in the last, like, two and a half years, which I guess means it may have been a while."

Troy blinked. "... This island, I swear," he said. "I don't know why I ever left.

"I'm Troy, by the way. Used to go to school here. I'm taking over the Boards."

Troy took the hand for a firm shake. "Well, if the specials today are any indication, I will definitely keep you in mind," he said, grinning. "How's the ravioli?"

Living with Ryan for three years had definitely helped to expand Troy's palette, yes.

Troy's mouth? Totally watering. "That sounds amazing," he replied. "Uh, definitely take an order of that. And a spinach salad?"

What? You didn't maintain a body like Troy's without eating your greens.

Troy nodded. "What do you recommend?" he asked. "I don't think my usual Dr Pepper will cut it with this."

Troy considered that. "Yeah, that sounds kind of awesome," he said. "I don't think I've ever had pear cider before."

Yeah, okay, Troy had to dive into that right away. If the noises he was making after the first bite -- inappropriate for public though they might be -- were any indication, Vincent could probably assume he liked the ravioli.

"Oh, my God," he said, after swallowing. "Marry me?"

Re: Talk to Vincent

[identity profile] oncourtandstage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Trust me," Troy said, after swallowing his next bite, "with me, appetite is not going to be a problem."

A few of the root vegetables, and Troy was adding, "So, I'm thinking maybe I should do a dinner theatre event? Because if you can cater for it, then I think it would go over really well."

"... Maybe we could skip the haggis?" Troy asked. "But yeah, I'm totally all over the thematic food. You could do, like, I dunno. Beef bourguignon and truffles in phyllo, for Tartuffe!"

Re: Talk to Vincent

[identity profile] oncourtandstage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you ever do beef bourguignon?" Troy asked. "I haven't had it in ages."

Re: Talk to Vincent

[identity profile] oncourtandstage.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Troy laughed. "That's probably easier to manage from Fandom," he pointed out. "And makes me wonder what ingredients you have that I wouldn't be familiar with."

... Probably lots, Troy. You're not exactly a culinary expert. Or a molecular gastronomist.
