Cafe Luke's, Monday

Vincent loved a good theme day, and Halloween was just about the greatest theme day there was. The whole place had been decked out in spooky coffins and skeletons, cats, bats, rats and spiders. Vincent himself was dressed up in his pharoah get up from the Egyptian tomb opening back in Eureka -- it wasn't as though most people here had seen it before, and he looked fabulous in eyeliner.

And, of course, it wouldn't be a good theme day without some thematic food:

Today's specials
Mummy meatloaf
Tentacle pot pie
Southern style caramel apples
Chocolate covered crickets

He wasn't really expecting anyone to go for that last one, but you never knew.

Luke's was open.

He's got a Jack-o'-Lantern cheeseburger pie all set for Jack.

Jack was dressed up for Halloween. Yep. As a sheriff.

Totally original. Wonder where he got the costume?

"Hey Vince," Jack said taking a seat at the counter with Lojack trotting in behind him. "Please tell me there's no real tentacles in that pie."

"Not in most of them!" He did do a squid one, just because. "Look at you, all sheriffed up!"

"Theeeen I'm just going to have a cheeseburger," Jack said with a raised eyebrow. "Plain. Lojack will have... whatever you think is best."

Jack then smiled and patted the uniform. "Looks good doesn't it? Forgot how nice it was."

For once, Vincent's face didn't fall at the cheeseburger request. "I have the perfect thing for you." And he pulled out the grinning jack-o-lantern cheeseburger pie.

"Oooooh," Jack said looking at it with interest. "And it's tentacle free?"

"100% guaranteed."

"I'll take a slice," Jack said with a nod. And no suspicious questions.

Nope. Still Halloween and not Christmas!

"Love the costume by the way," Jack said settling down at the counter. "Goes well with the meatloaf."

"I considered doing a whole Egyptian theme, but I couldn't resist the spiders and bats and things." And that brain shaped pate he was serving up for Lojack.

Or, well, let's hope it's pate. It might just be sheep's brain or something.

Lojack barked in appreciation and started wolfing down the food in a dog-like fashion while Jack...

Jack's face blanched a little bit.

"Is that really... You know what? I don't think I want to know."

"I'm guessing not," Vincent agreed. "You going trick or treating tonight? I've got some great goodies to hand out."

"Oh. Probably. You didn't make that goofy popcorn stuff again did you?" Jack teased.

"You mean my maize kernels? I thought I'd try something different this year."

"Does it involve chocolate and peanut butter? Hopefully already packaged by Reese's?"

"The spiders could be chocolate," but they weren't. "I have chocolate covered crickets."

He didn't sound hopeful.

I have "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" stuck in my head.

All two lines of it.
