Throughout the day, Troy could be found in the office, doing paperwork as the Boards prepared for the start of rehearsals on Wednesday. So many things that needed doing!

Who's more than happy to be interrupted.

As much as Billy loved listening to musicals and plays, actually getting up and performing something had been a daunting idea. But, the thought of having to perform something in class was worse, so when Billy saw the note at the bottom of the sign, he decided a last ditch effort to save himself was in order.

"Um, hi," he said, waving a little. "Are you the person to talk to about helping out with the show?"

"I'm one of them!" Troy replied, offering what he hoped was a non-intimidating smile. He held out his hand for Billy to shake. "Troy Bolton, I'm the manager and director.

"Billy Kaplan. I'm a student. Uh, obviously," he said, shaking Troy's hand. "I see you're looking for some non-performance help? The show sounds like it's going to be interesting and... well, I was supposed to audition for class, but it's kind of not my thing." There was a reason costumed superheroism was his preference.

Troy nodded. "Yeah, we're looking for both a stage manager and someone to run front-of-house," he explained. "Front of house involves some office work, too, and stage manager'd be responsible for coming to all the rehearsals and keeping track of things."

From those descriptions, it didn't take long for Billy to make a choice. "I could stage manage for you guys, if it's okay that I'm inexperienced. I'm very organized, and I'm not busy on the rehearsal days."

"Yeah, we can totally teach you," Troy agreed. "It, uh. Can kinda be like herding cats?

"Here, let me get your information down," he added, pulling out a file that he was pretty sure had 'employee information sheets' Ryan had sent at some point... Aha! Success. "Do you have time for a quick interview now?"

Billy laughed. "Yeah, I have time," he said. "It might be like herding cats at the beginning, but maybe these folks can be trained. The students here are a pretty special bunch."

"I dunno," Troy said skeptically. "I think it's something about the stage itself -- actors tend to devolve to the emotional maturity of seven-year-olds."

He started jotting a few things down on the sheet. "Was that Caplan C-A-P-L-A-N?" Troy asked.

Billy took another glance at the cast list and bit back a comment about how some of them probably were seven year-olds not all that long ago. "Uh, it's with a K actually. And technically my name is William, but not even my parents call me that." He didn't get into trouble often enough for that.

Troy nodded. "Billy it is, then!" he agreed cheerfully. He filled out a couple more details on the sheet and then handed it to Billy. "Fill this out and bring it back on Wednesday, for rehearsal," he explained. "As far as I'm concerned, the job is yours; Jono, my co-director, will have to weigh in, too, but I don't foresee him having any concerns."

Other than possibly, 'Did you ask any actual questions, Troy?'

"So like I was saying, stage managers are basically responsible for handling all the organisational aspects of a production -- everything from making sure that scripts and call sheets are in order to making sure that actors are set for their cues. That's where the herding cats comes in, really. You're not a glorified assistant -- no one should be asking you to make coffee runs, that kind of thing. You're the actors' superior, not the other way around, no matter how divatastic they may act."

Surprisingly, Troy was thinking back to experiences in New York; he didn't have enough exposure to ~~Miley~~ the cast to make any judgments that way.

Billy wasn't going to judge anyone on their potential for divatasticness either, and he just barely managed to keep from bouncing as he took the sheet from Troy. "That all sounds like stuff I can do, and I'm not easily offended or fazed or anything. This is going to be awesome, thank you."

Well, really, Troy wasn't going to judge them for it, either; he'd had his moments, and he was (at this point) well aware of them.

"Thank you!" Troy replied, grinning. "Seriously, I was wondering if we'd get anyone, and you kinda showed up right away, so that's totally awesome."

"I'm glad I can help," Billy said genuinely. "I was looking forward to seeing the showcase, so this'll be even better."

"So do you have any questions?" Troy asked. "Anything you're wondering about?"

"I don't think so? At least, not right now," Billy said. "Maybe after Wednesday I'll have questions, once I've seen how things are going to go."

Elphaba raised a bit of an eyebrow at the cast list and then turned over to address Troy.

"I see I wasn't wrong in my assumption," she said. And in a slight move of deflection added "Is Hank actually capable of music?"

"Oh, God, I hope so," Troy said, laughing a bit. "Luckily, he's Jono's problem, not mine.

"Congratulations, though, Elphaba. Hank's talent -- or lack thereof -- aside, you did quite well."

"Thank you," Elphaba said. "This won't be the first time I've appeared on this stage, actually. But I think I feel a little more... appreciated, this time."

Miley saw. And squeed. Extensively.

THIS WAS THE BEST WEEK EVER.

... If you auditioned and you're not on the cast list, let me know? Because everyone who auditioned got in. I'm reasonably certain we haven't missed anyone, but it was late when we finished that last night. ;)
