Fandom Fish 'N Bait - Monday Afternoon

The store was open. Thor was wandering around, eating strawberries and chasing some of those small lobsters again. Jon alternating between staring at his blank email box and calling disconnected numbers.

Stars were disappearing off the map (http://nofishinmypond.livejournal.com/tag/nothing%20bde). Sam was gone. Jack had put a team of experts on the problem -- but how did you fight something that only one person could see? Especially if every time you lost ground, you didn't know you had? Once again, the fate of the entire universe was on his shoulders, and he was low on options.

At least there was still one person he could commiserate with, and maybe turn to for help. He wasn't even sure the number would work, now that he'd left Fandom, but it had connected and started ringing. "Come on, pick up," he begged the phone.

Jon didn't even look at the phone before he grabbed it, he was just glad it was ringing.

"Jon here."

"Oh, good, you're there," Jack sighed. "Hey, kid, feel like talking to yourself? Wanna save the universe again?"

Jon was glad that somewhere, in some universe, that Jack O'Neill still had phone service.

"Can it be saved this time?" He wasn't joking, he wasn't sure it could be saved this time.

Jack stared at his phone for a few moments. "Awww, hell, it's happening to you, too?" he asked. "A whole chunk of the galaxy just... disappearing? Do you have any leads?"

"It's happening everywhere, old man. I'm in Fandom now, and yeah, it's multiverse wide." He hit the refresh button on his Gmail page and sighed. "I can't contact anyone back home."

"Oh, for the love of..." Jack facepalmed. He'd been doing that a lot today.

"Don't say 'multiverse'! I can't handle words like 'multiverse' today!" He sighed, and almost -- but not quite -- let out a sob. "I just watched Sam be erased from existence! Do you understand what that means? I'm now living in a universe where the person I depend on the most is, and always has been, McKay. Who won't return my calls."

The loss of Sam as a close personal friend with bucketloads of UST he could manage to struggle through in order to save the universe. The loss of Sam as the smartest person in the history of ever was really annoying.

"McKay's not so bad, just treat him like a cranky, solar system destroying Daniel."

Damn, it was hard enough dealing with his whole universe gone. Dealing with Jack dealing with Sam gone just made it worse. Thankfully, there was alcohol under the counter today.

And he poured himself a rather large glass of whiskey to deal.

"Tell him Pegasus called and they're sending Wraiths for Christmas."

"That's not the point!" Jack grumbled. "So, this is a Fandom thing? Attacking MY universe?! You'd sure as hell better be working on a fix over there!"

"It's just now making the radio, and you know how things are with people here, I didn't think what was going on with anyone else had anything to do with losing contact with back home but now..." Yeah, hard to dispute the evidence.

"I haven't been able to reach anyone in over a week."

"Aw, hell, I'm sorry," Jack told him. "You... no one? I'm so sorry. Stay strong, kid. Keep your head up. You know why? Because we are not a quitter!!!"

Except for that year back in the nineties after Charlie had died. And a few other occasions. But in general, Jack O'Neill didn't quit. No matter how much he felt like it.

"Really." Yeah, like that time when Daniel died for a really long time, or those three months on that one planet that shall not be spoken of even if the chick was hot.

"I'm just hoping this goes the way of all the others. It starts in on here, we kick its ass."

"It had better," Jack told him. "Until them, I'm gonna try to hold the universe together with spit and duct tape. You know, I'm the only person who even notices anything is wrong? Everyone else just thinks things are all hunky-dory. I'm hoping that's why the Ancients haven't stepped in by now. Because if they're taking their whole Ascended non-interference thing this far, then they can all just suck my ass."

"I think it may be the Fandom Factor." Yes, he was naming things again. "Kind of like how the Fandom Crack Fairy only hits people who lived here, so does the Fandom Factor."

"Yeah, well, I can do without the Crack Fairy, too. Try explaining THAT one to the Joint Chiefs." Jack facepalmed again, and chuckled a little. "Great. So now I've got superpowers because I decided to buy a damn boat."

"At least you didn't turn into a kid last weekend." He paused and grinned. "You didn't, did you?"

"Nope," Jack answered. "Last Thursday night, for about two hours. My universe and Fandom have never really seen eye-to-eye on the whole subject of clocks."

He glanced at the map, and did a double-take. "D'oh!!! It's growing faster! Hey, kid, I'm gonna have to call you back -- I need to go sic the goons on McKay."

He was a bit amused at the thought of kid!Jack, but that didn't last long. "You better call me back, old man."

"Yeah, well you'd better fix this before it's too late. Take care of yourself, okay?"

"Okay."

He didn't think he'd be the one to fix it, this time.
