Jack, despite running the radio station, only had the very vaguest of notions that something might be amiss.

He was far more concerned with Thanksgiving and who he could weasel free food out of that day.

Tiny was very carefully not making eye contact.

Where there's a vampire who was wondering where the vampire queen of Louisiana disappeared off to.

Eric was getting nowhere calling Louisiana, it was true, but it wasn't like Sophie-Anne was the most stable of rulers anyway.

As long as no one told him Bill was king, he'd be fine.

Some time after finally getting into town and finally getting some sleep, Jaina showed up with a box. "I found a bright side to my weekend," she announced. "You get lots of dirt."

"You made it," Eric said, grinning at her.

"And it only took three days," she said, setting the box down and taking a seat. "And I didn't kill anyone."

"I'm more impressed by that second part," he said, leaning in for a kiss. "Still want me to eat a gnome?"

Okay, kissing helped a little. "If you get to him first," she decided. "If not, I'm hunting him down and making an example of him."

"Force-feeding him to a rabbit?" Eric suggested.

"I think I'd feel bad for the rabbit," she decided. "You know it's bad when I put serious thought into this."

"You had some time to do so," Eric said, waving Tiny over with a drink.

"And motivation," she said, seeing the wave. "You might actually see me finish drinks." And that was a pretty rare thing, unless fanfic about herself was involved.

"That bad?" Eric replied, raising an eyebrow. He knew how rare her finishing a drink was.

"It was technically three days of travel, in which I was in the Ice Age, Timbuktu, a desert mirage, on an outcropping of some mountain, another place filled with snow, someplace there the leprechauns may or may not have wanted to eat my soul, didn't get to sleep, fought a sabertooth tiger, my bag by some magic ended up here before I did, and it ended up costing me so much to do that that I know the hotel is a bad idea," Jaina explained. "It's hands-down my worst travel experience and I once had to be extracted from an irradiated moon in a box."

Eric snorted. "That's pretty bad," he agreed. "But the sabertooth tiger thing is amazing."

He grinned. "I'm not quite sabertooth tiger old, after all."

"You're not missing anything," she told him. "Oh, and the only place to eat in all that time was a McDonald's playland in Japan. Which, by the way, I have a souvenir for you but I forgot it in the room."

Look, anyone who kept threatening to take her to Mooby Land was going to keep getting Happy Meal toys.

"Maybe we should have just fried up the tiger."

No, Jaina. No you shouldn't have.

And that reminded Eric of the were-tiger that Pam thought he'd made up. "As long as it wasn't a shifter, I don't see why not."

"I'll blame it on sleep-deprivation," Jaina said, sipping her drink. "Shifter?"

"Shape-shifter," Eric clarified. "Werewolves, were-panthers, were-tigers, were-foxes, were-bats..." he rolled his eyes. "Not as interesting as vampires, really."

Not that he was biased.

Jaina paused. "I think I might be dreaming this, or maybe I'm still at the mirage and hallucinating, but I could swear you just said were-bats."

"I've never met a were-bat," Eric admitted, "but that could just be because they're too embarrassed to come out because they turn into bats."

"Just wait till you turn into a non-pony animal," she teased.

"I was a completely badass pony," Eric declared.

"Have I ever said you weren't?" Giggling at the thought of fangs on his ass didn't count.

Eric looked appeased. "Good."

"Glad I could make you happy,"she said, and finished her drink. See, it really had been that bad.

"Do you need another?" Eric asked, glancing at her glass.

She paused, trying to gauge if she needed to relax more. The way she figured, if she could still detail a plan for ritualistic torture of the gnome, yes, she needed to relax more. "Yes," she decided. "I promise I'll stop before I get cuddly."

So, you know, after this one.

"How cuddly?" Eric asked, waggling his eyebrows.

"Cuddly enough," she said vaguely, just to tease.

"I can deal with a little bit of cuddling," Eric decided.

"Smart answer." And for that, he was getting her leaning against his shoulder.

"Smart vampire," he replied, smiling a bit at her.

"Yeah, I never forget that," she said with a little smile back.

Where Fry is off to dinner with her inlaws, so pings will be slow!
