Magic Box, Friday, November 25
Tara was used to having odd things to unpack at the Magic Box. Smelly herbs. Odd amphibian body parts. Books that had to be handled with gloved hands so they wouldn't fall apart.
Nothing, however, topped the crate that was waiting on the store counter when she got in Friday morning, dimly annoyed all of her clothes and the shop's walls had turned black overnight. She pried up the lid to find ... teddy bears. Lots and lots of teddy bears, dressed in miniature Justin Bieber t-shirts.
She noticed one had a red SQUEEZE ME button on a paw, and poked at it like a woman possessed.
Baby, baby, baby oh
Like baby, baby, baby no
Like baby, baby, baby oh
I thought you'd always be mine
Eventually -- not nearly soon enough for Tara's taste -- the song stopped and Tara dropped the bear back onto the pile of its brethren. She'd have to figure out what to do with them sooner or later, but right then she was going to step back from the Bieber bears and worry about something less terrifying, like vanishing universes.
