The Perk, Thursday, 12/22

Tyrion sat on a stool in the coffee shop, prodding a selection of pastries with his forefinger as if they'd made him angry. His father had finally gotten the half-panicked ravens he'd sent while the island was in crisis, and more or less demanded Tyrion spend his break explaining and atoning for them at Casterly Rock.

On the one hand, it would be nice to be someplace that wasn't getting so bloody cold for a while. (He still thought the winter every year plan was more than a bit excessive.) On the other ... well. It was Tywin. And Tyrion had gotten rather attached to the island, both because of the conveniences this world meant and because of the novelty of being in a place where he wasn't reminded of his height, his status as a disappointment, or both every other conversation.

He morosely chewed on a Danish as he resolved to make the best of things.

[OOC: Open coffee shop!]

Joan was working on the last of her own errands before setting off for Manhattan for the holidays -- Eric's travel had been booked, she'd purchased all of her own gifts (as well as a few of his, and sent out his Christmas cards) and she'd even splurged and bought herself a new set of luggage for the trip. But at the moment, she required coffee to continue.

When she stopped by the Perk, though, she recognized the rather unhappy-looking man poking at his pastries, and it took her until she'd received her latte (Joan had developed a lovely taste for fancy coffee) before she placed his name from their first encounter. "Mr. Lannister! How wonderful to see you again. I hope you've been enjoying your holiday season?"

"Pretty well," Joan said with a warm smile, if only to counteract that frown of his. "Though I'm off to endure the horrors of family in a few days myself. At least I get to see the spectacle of my city in the process -- sounds like your visit might be devoid of that kind of pleasant distraction?"

"Manhattan," she said, reverent at the very idea of it even as she processed what he'd said. "New York. Some call it the greatest city in the world, here. But even the happiest holiday and greatest city can't make up for an unhappy home, and I'm sorry to hear about your father." A pause, as Joan considered the best response with the most discretion, and added, "I generally find that men like that lack the charm of their so-maligned children."

And if she thought of Roger now, what of it?

"And friends in said city." And past employers, and -- well, Christmas was a time for poor decision-making, so a visit to Sterling Cooper might include a visit to Sterling's office in particular. "And you get to...see your family? Aside from your dad, I hope it's not too awful a trial to endure."

"Mostly just checking in with my mother and hitting after-Christmas sales," she said with a light smile. "I can't say I share the joy of a two-week break from my job, but a weekend away from Eric Northman's desk should prove surprisingly relaxing."

[ugh sorry I forgot that new!stupid!LJ doesn't let me post from my phone.]
