Raven had a plan. It wasn't a brilliant plan, not by a long shot. But it was a necessary plan, or so she reasoned. But Raven plus plans plus alone was generally a bad plan, so she was going to bounce the idea off Karla and Jono first.

"Hello, Karla," she said as she stepped into the store. "Happy New Year."

"Happy New Year!" Karla said, coming out to wrap her arms around her friend. "Did you have fun?"

"I did," Raven said, opening her arms to hug Karla back. "Jono taught me how to make s'mores, and we kissed at midnight. Did you have a good New Year's Eve as well? I did not see you in the park."

Admittedly she'd been occupied with marshmallowy goodness.

Karla turned a little red. "It was a most enjoyable evening," she said. "For all that we missed the park. We did make sure to kiss at midnight, though."

Ahem, yes. Kiss.

Empath, Karla, empath. "More than just a kiss?" she teased.

She'd seen that Karla and Warren were back together at Christmas, of course, but hadn't had a chance to pull her aside to ask about it.

Karla grinned at her. "Ladies don't kiss and tell," she said primly.

As if her grin didn't give it all away anyway.

"Then I will not tell you anything," Raven said.

She was totally lying. Besides, she'd have to ask Karla her advice on some of the store's lingerie at some point.

"Fortunately for both of us, I'm not a lady, I'm a witch," Karla said with a delighted laugh. "So things are smoothing out with Jono?"

Not that Jono had had a problem with Raven, but Karla knew just how deep his issues with his own appearance went.

"We had a very enjoyable evening last month before Christmas," Raven said, looking just a touch smug. "I am certain that I thoroughly proved that his appearance does not trouble me nor alter my desire for him."

"It's Jono," Karla said with a solemn nod. "You will almost certainly have to continue to prove it to him over and over and over again."

In the most enjoyable fashion possible!

"The breech between myself and Warren was, err, healed before we came back from his world."

On a rooftop. In broad daylight. Classily.

"I will happily do so," Raven said dreamily. "That time was very...intense."

And it was so much fun to have new parts of Jono's body to explore.

"And I am so glad you and Warren have resolved things between you," she went on. "I was certain you would."

Karla ducked her head. "He understood why I was so upset with him," she said quietly. "I didn't think he would, since almost no one else got it. But he did."

"Understanding and accepting are two very different things," Raven said with a nod. She'd tried to do the first, but she couldn't do the second. She'd flat out told Karla she would have done the same thing to protect her.

She squeezed Karla close again. "But I am so very happy you are reconciled," she said. "The bond between you is strong."

"Strong enough to survive the Nothing, an insane mutant, cure-weapons, and terrorism," Karla said with a sigh, hugging Raven back.

...Seriously. Their lives.

"So, any plans for the New Year?" she asked. "I mean, besides proving things to Jono."

"There are a few things I wish to do soon," Raven said, ever so casually. Small things, really. Nothing of importance.

"I need to go to Azarath, just to make certain it is still there, what is left of it," she continued. "And...I wish to visit my father's former realm."

No big deal!

And there would be Karla, all traces of amusement fleeing her face as she looked back at Raven.

"You want to what?!"

"Ever since the multiverse was remembered back into existence, I have been worried that perhaps my father might have been restored to power," Raven explained patiently. She'd thought this over a lot! "Thousands -- millions of people remember him as he was, Trigon the Terrible, destroyer of worlds. What if they inadvertently returned him to life with their fears?"

She may have helped that along a tiny bit. She still had nightmares about her father and what he'd done to her and her friends.

Shit. That was a really good point. There were those he'd conquered and those who'd worshipped him and not everyone was going to remember him as the dead, emasculated--if only metaphorically--demon they'd left him a year ago.

"So your idea is to go visit him and see?"

"I only wish to...." She fluttered her hand, searching for the right word. "Peek. Just look for evidence that he might be alive. I do not intend to spend much time there."

It was a horrifying place, she knew that from her brushes there in the past.

"And if he's there?" Karla asked bluntly. "Even a peek could be dangerous, Raven."

Not that that had ever stopped Karla.

"Would it not be better to know if he has been restored?" Raven pointed out. "That way I can be prepared should ever he try anything against me again. It would eliminate his advantage of surprise."

She tried to give Karla a reassuring smile. "Besides, I do not think he will truly to there. This is merely to put my fears to rest. Trigon was destroyed and will stay that way."

Karla didn't look as convinced, but Raven did have an excellent point. Making sure that Trigon wasn't lurking in wait was a good idea.

"Fine, but I want to be there," she said immediately. "You're not going to do this alone."

"I would rather not go alone," Raven said. "I should be able to draw you into my mind and take you with me. It is a simple thing."

Famous last words.

"Well, as long as it's going to be simple," Karla said with a sigh.

She knew how often she insisted things were going to be simple, too.

"You know you've got my help if you want it. Who else are you asking?"

There had better be other people involved, Raven!

"I will speak to Jono of this as well," Raven said. She was expecting him to be as resistant as Karla, however.

"It will put my mind at ease to do this," she said. "Thank you."

Moreso. Jono could out-stubborn Karla sometimes.

"You're welcome," she said, giving Raven a reluctant grin. "I'm only agreeing because I know just how important this is to you. And I can't stand in the way of that."

No matter how much she wanted to. Trigon, dammit.

After her first day, Darcy figured she needed, nay, deserved some chocolate. Possibly even a lot of it. It was a completely reasonable mistake to make.

"Oh. Not those kind of decadent delights."

"Nope," Karla said with a smile. "But we do have candies and chocolate if you're interested!"

It was both reasonable and common, actually.

She held up a cup of inappropriately-shaped chocolate lollipops that they kept near the register, and offered Darcy one.

"Kiss kiss, I'm Karla. Welcome to 'Dite's and help yourself to a lollipop for your trouble."

"Oooh! Thanks!" Darcy said and did help herself to chocolate, no matter how it was shaped. "I'm Darcy and I'm new." She figured that explained the need for chocolate.

It did. In fact, it got Karla to offer her another.

"You're in the Strategy class, right?" she asked. "Be prepared for a week of introductions like this," she warned. "I have three years of experience to back me up on this. And if you join any clubs, you'll probably end up doing it again, too."

Darcy was never going to turn down chocolate. "Yeah, which is like, totally not what I expected from a class but I am so not complaining. I like introductions." She admitted. "I had a bio class once where we convinced the teacher that we didn't know each other enough yet for an entire month."

Karla laughed at that. "That's one Hell of a gullible teacher," she said. "May I ask what brings you to Fandom? Since, well, no offense to the teachers--" exactly "--but this isn't the most academically rigorous school."

"Exactly that." Darcy admitted. "I wasn't doing too well in some of my classes and if I wanted to even have a chance of getting into a college that wouldn't make me take a math class ever again..."

"Hopefully you're better at spinning weird class titles into some kind of college-worthy credit," Karla said, remembering Emma's struggles to do just that. "'Fighting For Funsies' and 'So You're a Fugitive' seem like they might stretch some credibility."

Darcy considered this. "Physical education and historical economics." She suggested. "Except I also have to take stupid physics on a computer or something. My big sibling lied to me!"

"You do?" Karla blinked, confused. "Thank the Darkness that's something I can skip. Who's your big sib?"

"Uh....a really hot guy who said he's a god from Connecticut?" Darcy tried.

"Luke," Karla guessed with a fair degree of certainty. She didn't actually know where he was from (and could only vaguely knew where Connecticut was), but of all the demigods on the island, he was by far the cutest. "How'd he lie to you?"

"Sure!" Darcy agreed. "And he lied to me about ever having to take physics again."

"I don't think that's necessarily his fault," Karla said. "I don't think anyone else has to take physics, computer or no."

You were just special, Darcy!

...Have another lollipop for that.

Like Darcy was ever going to turn down chocolate.

"That is like, so unfair." She whinnied. "I know gravity goes down, what else am I ever going to need?"

Karla grinned and the container of lollipops rose up off the counter and floated towards the ceiling. "It doesn't always," she said casually.
