After spending the holidays in Albuquerque with his parents -- and ringing in the New Year with Chad and Ryan in New York -- Troy was back, settled, and ready to announce his and Jono's next show.

The next show of awesome.

Troy took a little trip around town to throw posters up on every available surface, and then settled into the office at the Boards, whistling and listening*** to one of his favorite songs from the show.

After seeing the posters around town, Karla's taken a few moments to look up the show on the googles. She'd heard her friends mentioning it a few times, but she'd never seen it herself.

Poking through some images and Youtube clips gave Karla a brilliant idea. One that needed to be shared with Troy immediately. "Kiss kiss!" she called, knocking on his office door.

"Kiss kiss!" he called back, grinning up at her. He shoved some papers aside, and gestured to the other chair. Which was somehow miraculously clear! "How's it going, Karla?"

"The new year is starting much better than the last ended," Karla said enthusiastically, though, truth be told, the final week of December had been rather nice. Especially compared to the mess that had been the previous three weeks.

She bounced inside and took the proffered seat and abruptly announced, "I have an idea for the new show!"

Troy's grin widened; the enthusiasm was infectious. "That's pretty fast! The posters just went up this morning. What's the idea?"

"I was thinking that maybe the costumes could be sponsored by 'Dite's!" Karla said. "I looked the show up online and they all looked like something that we carry!"

Well, most of them, anyway. The stuff Garnet and...Chad?...had worn at the beginning was all pretty normal.

Oooh. "Oooh." Oooh.

"And by sponsor, you mean... provide the costumes? At what kind of cost?"

That said, any kind of support in that area was kind of awesome.

Karla shrugged. The idea of 'cost' hadn't really factored in. "Uhhh, it'd be nice if you plugged the store?" she suggested. "Or maybe gave us a spot in the program or something?"

The store was owned by a goddess and managed by a Queen whose boyfriend was one of the top five richest kids in school. Karla had a very skewed view of things.

"YES!" Maybe a little more excited next time, Troy?

"I mean," he continued, a liiiittle calmer, "that sounds like absolutely an arrangement we can make. Do you have a catalogue we could look through, or should we just send out costume people to the store?"

Once they, y'know, had costume people.

"Both!" Karla said, calling in some of the catalogues she used to order stock. "I mean, we don't do a lot of naughty lingerie business, so there's probably a lot of stuff in the store that I can just give you for free, but there might be stuff that's perfect for what you're thinking of in the catalogues, too."

Troy blinked, just once, at the catalogs just appearing -- but it's not like he didn't know Karla could do magic, after all.

"Normally when a theatre gets free stuff," he said, laughing a bit, "it's an old couch left by the side of the road. Thank you so much, Karla!"

Karla beamed at him. "You're welcome," she said, pleased that he was so happy. "I figure this might be a good way to get 'Dite's out in front of the public, too, so really, it works out for both of us. And if no one's gonna buy the stuff, it shouldn't go to waste."

And, well, Karla loved the theater. She was happy she could help.

"And we can advertise for you in the program, too," Troy suggested. "Make sure everyone knows you're an awesome store."

The theatre needed more patrons like Karla. Really. Troy's grin said that pretty clearly.

Wealthy and cavalier?

"And maybe something like, 'Tonight's program brought to you by 'Dite's Decadent Delights'?" Karla asked, trying to pitch her voice low like the announcers on the teevee. "And maybe we can put a discount in the program! Like if people bring a ticket to a show to the store, they can save 10% off their next purchase?"

It wasn't like offering more sales could lose them money, after all.

Completely insane? In a good way, though, the narrative assures you.

"Yeah, we can totally do that," Troy agreed. "Here, let me --" He scrambled through one of the drawers for a clean notebook, then started jotting things down. "Anything else we should do for the store, d'you think? Oh! Lots of people dress up for the show, so we should advertise that ahead of time, too, that 'Dite's has everything they need for their own costumes if they want to buy them."

"The do?" Oooh, that was even better! "Maybe we could tie that in, too? Tell people to come in costume and get a discount off their tickets or refreshments or something? They don't even have to come to 'Dite's for that, but it might put people more in the spirit of things?"

Troy nodded. "It's kind of a big thing," he explained. "Major cult following. And yeah, we can probably do a discount on the tickets if they come in dress -- especially," he added, smirking a little, "if we're getting our costumes for free."

Karla paused, suddenly very unsure. "A cult?" she asked.

Sorry, Troy. But she only knew cults from Sebastian and Trigon's followers and those were bad news.

"What? What about a- Oh! No, no, I mean -- 'cult following' doesn't mean an actual cult," Troy explained. "It's how we refer to something that's not in, like, the mainstream, maybe doesn't have a lot of fans? But the fans it does have are really into it. Like, really popular in some groups, but not generally, if that makes sense?"

"Oh, okay," Karla said, relaxing a bit--and deciding to check with Jono about it anyway, just to make sure. If there was going to be any cultish activity going on, he would know.

"I still don't think I'll be auditioning this semester," she added. "Not because of the cult thing, but...knees. I try not to show mine. In public."

It was a thing, okay?

As soon as Billy saw the signs, he made a beeline for the Boards, putting on his most adorable look as he went to the office door and knocked.

Okay, so maybe innocent and adorable wasn't the right way to go considering the show Troy and Jono were going to put on, but it couldn't be helped. "Hey, do you have a minute?"

"For you?" Troy asked, grinning -- he was still riding the high from Karla's offer. "Of course. C'mon in!"

Innocent and adorable totally worked for the show. ... In the audience, to be completely freaked out by what was going on on-stage.

Billy stepped inside, glad to see that Troy was in a good mood. "Um, I saw the signs you guys put up for the next show, and I was wondering if anyone had come to you about technical stuff yet? Like the crew?"

"Wondering about your stage manager position?" Troy asked, waving him at the chair. "Because I actually figured I'd ask you first if you wanted to do it again."

"Really?" Billy asked, grinning as he sat down. "I'd love to! I mean, I know a musical's a bigger deal than the showcase, but I think I got some great experience last time, and I just--yes, I totally want to do it again!"

Troy reached into a drawer and pulled out a booklet. "Here," he said, holding it out for Billy. "We'll watch the movie during rehearsals, just so people get a sense of it, but that's the script. Here, let me grab you a new notebook," he added, rummaging through another drawer before coming up with an empty one. "You should use a new one for every show.

"Anyway, I'd like you to have the show broken down by scene by the time rehearsals start, with a list of who's in which scene, what props are needed, any costume changes... That kind of stuff."

Diiiidn't know what you were getting into, did you, Billy?

No, Billy didn't know what he was getting into, but he was pretty much bouncing in the seat anyway. "I can totally do that," he said, flipping through the script, his eyes getting a little wide at some of the dialogue and blocking notes. "I have to admit, I've only seen parts of the movie. I've heard some of the songs too, but my parents are kind of conservative and if they caught me watching something like this...yeah, it'd be awkward. So, I'm glad it's here where they'll never have to know."

"Yeah, I totally didn't see it 'til I was living with friends in New York," Troy admitted. "Not that my parents were strict or anything, but they... weren't the kind of parents who'd let me see this. I don't think I even really knew about it until my friend Ryan showed it to me."

Troy grabbed his own notebook, jotting Billy down in the back with a 'stage manager' notation. "So are you good to come to the auditions, too?" he asked. "I mean, it would be great if you could."

"Yeah, I can come to the auditions. That'd be awesome," Billy said. "Thank you again for this. I promise, I won't let you guys down."

"Yeah, really not worried about that," Troy assured Billy. "Seriously. You'll do great."

Ohgod we have so many issues.

... And now thinking of ways to wrangle this super reluctant girl into participating.

I will involve gremlin bites if I have to.

I would pay money for gremlin bit auditions to get Natalie in on this. True story.

I... wouldn't pay money because I don't have any. But I will give puppy-dog eyes!

Well, now it's a moral imperative I make it happen, isn't it? :D

To be honest, I didn't even need the puppy eyes.

It was my first thought after seeing the meta-character list!

That said, now I'm trying to decide between Hayley and Herc for this.

...because sadly Elphaba would never manage to do this show.
