Magic Box, Thursday, Jan. 5

Tara couldn't quite explain why, but there was always something shiny about being at work for the first time in a few weeks -- especially when that matched with a new semester and a new year. It meant new stock to geek over and arrange and new paperwork to fill in and, okay, she even liked having new dust bunnies to chase in the storage room.

Tara Maclay was a strange, strange Wiccan sometimes.

The shop was open anyhow.

Cassie wasn't sure what kind of courage had drawn her here, but now that she had stepped into the shop, she couldn't just flee.

Taking a deep breath, she walked up to the person she assumed was the manager.

"Hello?" Cassie's voice was soft and shy, but at least she wasn't stuttering right now.

"Hi," Tara said, feeling a rush of recognition. "You're new, aren't you?"

Cassie nodded her head. "Yeah. just got here over the weekend. I'm Cassie."

[[I am so sorry. Migraine so I was knocked right out last night.]]

"Tara," Tara said, gesturing to herself. "Nice to meet you. Let me know if you need help finding anything, okay?"

"A-actually," she said, pushing a strand of hair back behind her ear nervously. "I'm looking for a job?"

Tara was surprised for a second, and blinked at Cassie until she found the ~~handwavey~~ job application and passed it over the counter. "Sure," she said. "Uh ... please fill this in. Do you use magic, or are you just curious?"

Cassie played with her hair nervously and gave Tara a small smile.

"I...I use magic and am curious, too." She started to fill in the application. "I'm new at it, but I've been told that I'm a fast learner."

"Everybody was a beginner once, right?" Tara said, smiling back. It was interesting, meeting shy people now; it reminded he how much less shy she'd gotten over the last few years.

"Except the people who were born with magic, and that's .... k-kind of a whole different thing. I'm a kind of witch my world calls Wiccan."

Cassie bit her lip.

"I was born a witch, but didn't know about it until a few months ago."

"Oh wow," Tara said. "Well, if you want to work with me, you can come find me anytime?"

Cassie perked up. "Really? That would be nice."

Tara nodded. "Yeah, I like helping people. Besides -- I never would have gotten better if I hadn't worked with my friends when I came here."

She smiled. "I like helping out, too. And the best way to get more secure with your power is to work with it, right?"

"Absolutely," Tara said. "I mean, I can't use my power for everything all the time, but I like being good with it when I need it."

Cassie nodded. "It's important to have confidence in your powers if the time comes that you're needed."

"Totally," Tara agreed, rising up to see how Cassie was doing with the application. "So, uh, which day did you want to work? We don't have anybody on the weekends."

Cassie handed her the completed application. "Either of those days sound good. I'm just not available on Tuesdays or Thursdays."

"Come in Saturday," Tara decided. "I'll stop by in the morning to train you, okay?"

Cassie smiled and nodded. "That sounds like a plan and I'll be here." She put her hands in her pockets. "It's nice to meet you, Tara."

"Same to you," Tara said. "Feel free to look around, and yell if you have a question."

"Thank you and I will."
