Dite's Decadent Delight, Monday Afternoon

Rather than inventory today, Karla was searching the back room to find all of the costumes and lingerie that the store had accumulated over the past few years. She needed to see what exactly they had to work with to get ready for the requests she was expecting from Troy and Jono.

Okay, and she was sometimes pausing to pull up hideous examples of clothing and squeal.

Raven had made a recent decision, and now she needed to let Karla know about it. She knew she'd find her at 'Dite's today, so she headed into town.

She followed the mad cackling to the back room. "Karla?" she called, not wanting to startle her.

"Raven!" Karla poked her head out, holding a swathe of fabric that probably technically counted as an 'outfit.' "I have a present for yooooou!"

There was plenty of stuff in black in the boxes that Karla had been digging though, but this had been what Karla'd been holding when Raven called for her.

"Haven't we talked about branching out?" she offered. "These are Glacian colors. Maybe we could make this your Court outfit?"

Raven would freeze her considerable assets off.

Raven knew Karla was kidding, but her cheeks turned pink regardless. "It would be difficult to focus on healing when I am shivering all the time," she protested.

Karla was in the mood for silly. Cut into all the brooding she'd been doing herself. "C'mon," she urged. "You already wear all black anyway. Severely frostbitten extremities would just means your hands and feet match your outfits!"

Kenzi wandered in after her classes. Wearing a certain pair of earrings.

"Holy wha--?" Karla glanced up. And then her attention focused on the earrings Kenzi was sporting today. "My earrings! Where on earth did you find them?"

Someone had forgotten how and where she'd lost that pair. Give her time, though...

"Oh, these old things?" Kenzi hmm'd and plinked them with one finger. "Somewhere on the ground. They're great. Are you sure they're yours?" Very dubiously.

"Yes!" Karla said, nodding. "They were a Winsol gift from Khary and Morghanne! If you look at the back, you can see Banard's insignia etched in the silver."

Don't overplay your hand, little thief. Eventually Karla would start to wonder why your psychic scent wasn't matching your expressions.

Well, tits. If they were a gift for - Winsol? - that was a little different from bought-for-yourself. Kenzi pouted, but took one off to squint at it. "Here, I don't know what I'm looking for. That stampy thing?"

Karla took the earring, flipped it over, and showed Kenzi the back, where there was a little stylized letter 'B' with a small flourish that turned into a heart. "That's Banard's insignia," she explained. "He's an amazing jeweler in Amdarh. I'm so glad you found them. I would have hated to go home and tell Morghanne I'd been careless with her gift..."

No, seriously. How had she lost them again?

"Ahhh. Good friend?" Kenzi asked, reaching up to undo the other one. "Winsol. That's your winter-holiday, girl-dies-in-snow, the world is saved one, right?"

...and la la la, maybe she'd forget where they'd gotten lost? Hmm. Partial truth? Yes. "Well, it was during the mess in Special Collections. Which, duh, who wouldn't be distracted?"

After lunch with Ender, Ben had stopped off for ice cream (and doubled back to the dorms for holiday presents) and was now entering the shop.

"Should I have a bad feeling about this?" he called over a squeal.

"Can't catch meeeeee!" Came a deep, throaty voice (easily recognizable as Karla's) as a mannequin flew out of the back room.

"You'll never get away with this!" Karla's voice again, this time pitched much higher as a second mannequin followed the first. "Stripper Girl is in hot pursuit, Lady Lightning-pants!"

Karla followed them out as they zipped and whirled around one another, holding her stomach as she laughed--at least until she saw Ben. The laughter stopped abruptly and so did the mannequins, both of them falling out of the air. "Oh," she said a little lamely. "Hi."

Ben watched the mannequins fall and was torn between the urges to run and to laugh until he cried. "I should visit more often if you're getting this bored," he teased.

He was not going to mention what the mannequins were wearing. Nope. Not ever.

Which was one of the reasons Karla was doing this. Anything that ridiculous needed to be made fun of. Extensively. Stat.

"I was looking through our collections of costumes and lingerie," she explained as the mannequins vanished. There was a clatter as they reappeared in the storage room, once again falling to the ground. "Some of them are just so stupid looking, it's impossible to take them seriously."

Karla gave him a ghost of a smile. "I was thinking about them doing battle with the giant rooster outside," she admitted. "The headlines would be amazing."
