'Dite's Decadent Delights, Friday afternoon

Kenzi now felt she had to do a Greek theme, having met her employer. So the mannequins were now wearing togas, lounging around in Roman party style. With bottles of champagne bubble bath in every hand.

IT'S PARTY TIME SOMEWHERE. GRAB YOUR SUPPLIES.

'Dite wasn't surprised to find Kenzi at the store. Nor was she surprised to read the sign.

But the mannequins? Togas?

"Really, Kenzi?"

"What?" Kenzi popped out from behind one, and gave her the perky look she usually gave Bo when that tone came out. "Not enough fig leaves?"

She couldn't roll her eyes hard enough. "Togas? Please. We sell fine lingerie as well as other . . . sundry items. We don't sell togas."

Though . . . they could. But she quickly discarded that idea.

"It's a theme!" Kenzi started waving her arms. "People connect better if you tell 'em a story! They want to be part of it!" She pointed at one mannequin swooning or passing out on a couch. "Look, he's overcome with exhaustion and sex! People want that for themselves!"

"I'm not going to argue with the poses." Well, she could, but she figured with Kenzi it was best to have one argument at a time. "Just with the togas." She motioned to one particular mannequin. "And no one wants to see a plastic person half naked."

Especially that half. No, she was not going to have anatomically correct mannequins. Just no.

"Fiiiine." Kenzi grumped her way over to that particular mannequin. "You're the boss." And... ooo!

Look, boas! "Carnivale!"

"How old are you, Kenzi?" 'Dite shook her head. "Fine. If you want to do a carnivale theme, go ahead. Just make sure all these guys are dressed, okay?"

She turned away to hide the smile. 'Dite really just wanted to give Kenzi a hard time today. After all, she'd taken Kenzi and Toby to Italy already -- couldn't seem to be too much of a pushover.

Even if she really was.

"Yessss!" Kenzi bopped around finding stuff with sequins, bugle-beads, and bling, throwing more jewelry on the mannequins than a real person could stand up under. "So, Karla said you were in Egypt?"

'Dite nodded. "I was. But it was work, not play, and no, I won't take you."

She glanced up at Kenzi with a half grin to show she wasn't being too serious.

"Would I ask for that?" She so would. "...after yesterday's divine and yummy meal?" Kenzi grinned, draping a scarf around one mannequin's head. "So what, getting Cleopatra out of trouble with Caesar?"

The question was probably off-hand for Kenzi, but it made 'Dite look up with disturbed surprise. After a moment she simply said, "Something like that."

She hoped that would be the end of it, and turned the conversation in another direction. "So, tell me about you, Kenzi. Where are you from? How did you end up on Fandom?"

That was pretty much the extent of Kenzi's historical knowledge of Egypt, yes. But she was willling to let it go pretty easily.

"Hmmmm, wellll..." Aphrodite wouldn't be too annoyed about the shoplifting, right? She'd already told her about trying to break into Loki's room. Still. "I could tell you some interesting lies or the boring truth?"

'Dite gave her a grin and a wink. "Tell me the truth and then you can tell me all the lies you came up with."

Kenzi grinned. And decided to mix it up.

"I'm the illegit daughter of this bigwig Canadian politician, and she wanted me to get straightened out after I got arrested for stealing cars--" She was. Once! But they dropped the charges. "Plus, of course, I'm under a curse, but it doesn't take effect unless I'm in Canada, and you know how it is when you're a genius, you find normal curriculum stuff stifling--" Also true! And that was why she had previously dropped out! "Plus my best friend Bo was here and I figured hey, why not?" Sort of true! Except they hadn't been BFFs yet and Kenzi had had no idea she was here! "And now I just really enjoy it, you know? Once you get past the freaked-out terror of your first invasion, it's all good."

"Uh-huh." 'Dite couldn't hide her smirk. "Right. So, you've been arrested, probably for stealing cars, definitely stealing something. You needed to get out of Canada for some reason, and you did drop out of school." She leaned on the counter. "That's the part I believe is true. Wanna tell me the rest?"

"Enh." Kenzi grinned, then got up to perch on the counter. "Not a whole lot else to tell, since you've figured most out. I got busted after shoplifting six pairs of Louboutins, and it was either here or juvie. Personally, I think somoene was crazy, but in a good way." She smirked back at Aphrodite.

"And the part about your best friend?" She tilted her head. "That was a little weird to add if it was a lie. Are they on Fandom or is that made up as well?"

"I added it because it was a really weird coincidence." Kenzi grinned. "I met Bo back in Canada about three months before I came here, just before she got here. And then got weirded out when I arrived and she was the Security Chick for the school." There had been screeching, since the last time she'd met her she'd ate a guy's face. "But we're buds now, even though she's all old and almost thirty and stuff."

Aphrodite made a note to herself to never take anything Kenzi said at face value.

Then --

"Wait, thirty is old?"

Kenzi might get the feeling she was in dangerous waters. Cause she was.

Heheheheheh. Kenzi gave her a wide-eyed look. "For a human, yeah. Not that it matters to you, O Goddess, since you'll be twenty-five forever, am I right?"

Uh-huh. Points to the pipsqueak. 'Dite couldn't help but smile.

"You sweet talker, you."

Kenzi buffed her nails on her shoulder. "I try. But I have such good material to work with!"

'Dite couldn't help but wonder which one of them she was referring to, but decided it wasn't worth it to find out.

"So, what changes would you make to the store if you could? What would you do differently?" She turned thoughtful. "I've been thinking I need to put in some new movies, you know? Maybe some romance instead of just, you know, porn."

"Ooo! Okay, games. More of those get-you-in-the-mood romance games," Kenzi said immediately. "Some people need the help. Annd maybe some more boots." What? You could never go wrong with footwear.

"Ooooooh. Good idea! I like the way you think, girlfriend."

You shouldn't necessarily take that as a compliment, Kenzi.

"Wanna help me look for some on the internet? I'll let you and Toby choose one to try out, if you want."

Yes, that was a decidedly evil grin she was suddenly wearing.

"Muahaha," Kenzi said without shame. She rubbed her hands together in delight. "Works for meeee!"
