It had been mercifully quiet in Fandom for some time, but that didn't mean Cable wasn't preparing for the worst.

The security system of the store was getting a complete refit, and the behind-the-counter weapons-in-case-of-emergency were being scrutinized and replaced where necessary. Not only that, but the shooting range was... getting a kid-friendly corner, for in a few years from now when they weaned Jan off the nerf and onto actual armaments.

So Cable? Flitting in and out of the back rooms all day, Tether following his every move.

Bruce had seen the sign for the store a couple of times and had given it a second look. He had never seen a place that offered both weapons and a place to meditate at the same time.

Of course just being in Fandom for a short period of time he had really no idea how not-so-very odd this was in the scheme of things.

Deciding to check it out he entered the store and nodded at the proprietor... with the metal arm. And now he was just kind of staring at the more technically advanced guns in the store as well.

Cable... looked at him.

He'd heard the radio recently.

"Banner."

Bruce let out a long sigh.

"I see my reputation proceeds me," Bruce replied. "Unfortunately you have the drop on me as I have no idea who you might be."

"You can call me Cable," he offered. "I'm the mayor of this town. And the proprietor, as well." His mouth quirked up a little. "I try to keep tabs of what happens on my island."

"I suppose you would in a place like this," Bruce said with a nod. "I take it you've met another version of me before?"

"Let's say I've heard of you," Cable noted, "and I'd like to keep an eye on you because of it."

"That's probably a smart thing to do," Bruce replied genially. "Depending on what you mean by 'keep an eye on'. Because if it's me being in a cell or being experimented on... Well, I'll leave the island and I won't trouble you again."

"Oh, that won't be necessary. I have no interest in claiming any kind of control over you, mister Banner... though if your friend comes around, I might have to intervene," Cable replied - genially, in turn. "But I'm sure you understand that."

Bruce nodded at the armaments around the room. "Looks like an intervention is something you could provide," he replied. "And I've made certain strides in keeping my-"

Bruce made a face here. The term was something he'd prefer not to use.

"-friend in check. One method in particular was something that brought me in here."

This time the nod was directed at the meditation area.

"You're welcome to use it, if it'll be of any help," Cable replied. "I'm a firm believer in second chances, and in working to ensure everyone's quality of life improves."

"It does help," Bruce said looking a bit relieved. "And I'd like that. Both the use of the room and a second chance. However... What I really need right now is a source of income. I don't suppose you can recommend a place in town that needs an employee but can keep me off the books?"

Cable paused.

"Well," he said. "I think we can unify both of our aims there. I've been out a few employees for some time - and I'm sure we can both agree you could use ready and constant access to the meditation room."

Bruce look of shock was soon replaced by a small grin. "I wasn't expecting to find a job when I walked in," Bruce said offering his hand for a handshake. "I appreciate the offer."

And of course it allowed Cable to keep an eye on him but Bruce wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Cable grabbed his hand, and gave it a shake. "You're welcome," he said lightly. "Alex works on Thursdays, but every other shift is free."

"I'll take Tuesdays then," Bruce replied in gratitude. "I appreciate the opportunity. Anything I need to know about this place?"

"We don't sell firearms, except for during emergencies," Cable said, waving an arm. "The rest of the weapons can be sold to anyone with the ability to use them. If someone comes in looking for the shooting range, be sure to check their ID; when in doubt, get me."

"Sounds pretty simple," Bruce said with a nod. "I think I can handle that."
