Atlas Gym- Wednesday morning

There were a few hours left till Jaina's portal, so naturally she spent it training. That would probably be abnormal for most people, but here we were. And she was finding that maybe she had some things to take out on a punching bag, which was probably spurred on by thoughts that once she got home she might have to see if she could maybe get some of the better people to train with without letting on why.

So if you needed to see Jaina for anything, you.... probably didn't have to guess very hard as to where she might be, no.

Did Anakin need a reason to see her? Not really. And it wasn't as if tracking her down was hard.

"One of these days," he said as he leaned against the wall to watch, "you're going to figure out a way to build training equipment into a bacta tank."

And to think, he hadn't even seen her go really psycho about this yet!

"Somewhere, in some reality, a Cilghal just started sighing and doesn't know why," she said, taking a break to turn towards him. "Hey there."

In a weird way, she was relieved he was still here.

See, Jaina was half the reason he felt justified in spending a lot of time training himself, even if Jacen gave him a hard time about it.

"Hi," Anakin replied, grinning at her. "How come you're still here?"

Not that he wasn't glad she was, but in typical little-brother fashion he managed to make it sound like a playful complaint.

"To cramp your style," she replied with a little lopsided smile. "Nothing's happened at home that needs me immediately, so I got part of an extra day here."

Granted, she also thought she'd be able to do things like that for longer than she actually would. Oops. These extra days were good to take now, while she could.

Anakin sighed and pretended to be Terribly Put-Upon. "Of course. What else are big siblings for?" he teased before adding, in an impressed and wide-eyed kind of way, "You've gotten really, really good."

"I had to," she admitted with a shrug. "This is what near-daily practice gets you."

So yeah, she was so not going to be the one telling him to train less.

Other reasons she was his favorite sibling.

Anakin, luckily, didn't think to ask why she had to; he just assumed it was because, well. This was the kind of life they lived. "Good thing I practice every day, then," he decided. "I've got plenty of time to catch up to you."

Yeeeah.

"Please. You were better with a lightsaber than me at your age," she pointed out.

"I am? I mean, I was?" Jaina, don't tell him these things. Anakin looked way too pleased by that assessment. "Astral."

It wasn't beating her at flying, but it was something.

"That still means I have a lot of practice to do to keep it that way."

"Ask your me to spar when you see her next," Jaina said. "It was years before I thought I'd be able to beat you or Jacen."

And she didn't think she could beat Jacen these days, which was one of the reasons she was going to have to step things up.

"Are you practicing with anyone?"

Anakin nodded. "I spar with Ben sometimes. He thinks I should practice with Grandfather, but . . ."

He trailed off and just looked at her, fairly sure she'd know what he meant.

"Trust me, I know," she said dryly. "But if you do get more comfortable with the idea, he's really a good person to spar with."

Anakin chewed on his lip. "I guess so. Have you?"

She nodded. "Quite a bit. He's gotten less... teachy in recent years."

Anakin lifted his chin stubbornly. "Well, if you can, I guess I can too." Mmm, sibling rivalry.

Jaina grinned. "I should have known that'd get you to do it," she realized. "I think he really wants to get to know you, too."

"If you and Tahiri both think so, I don't think I have much of a choice," Anakin said, as if anyone had ever been able to convince him to change his mind once he'd made it up. "I'll think about it. But if I end up losing a hand ~~like in a Troy Denning book~~ . . ."

"You won't. Because I'd kick his ass," she promised. But no seriously, she would. "So you met Tahiri, huh?"

"It'd almost be worth it just to see you do that," Anakin said, completely joking this time. He liked his hands just fine.

But on to the more important question.

"I did," he said, perking up. "It's really weird that she's older than me. And she seems a little different, but she's still her, you know?"

"Oh, I definitely know. I think Tahiri's still Tahiri no matter when in the timeline she's from."

No guarantees on whether she'd say that during Tahiri's Sith phase.

Yeah, with that, who knew. Chalking it up to 'pod person' could be totally valid.

". . . I can't believe how much sense that made, when you think it really shouldn't."

"It's a sign of adjustment," Jaina told him. "I think the next step is mentioning proper nouns in plurals, like 'Tahiris' or 'Lukes.'"

"I think the thing that worries me," Anakin replied, "is that I haven't even bothered to complain about how that doesn't make sense."

"I take that as a good thing, since complaining will do you absolutely no good there," she pointed out.

Anakin mock-glowered at her. "You're starting to sound like Mom, you know."

At sixteen, Jaina might have twitched at that, depending on how bitchy of a mood she was in.

"Sometimes Mom knows what she's talking about," she teased.

Yeah, Anakin had been banking on the twitch, actually, so congratulations on making him actually look surprised, Jaina.

"Wow, you really have gotten old."

Way to cover up, Anakin.

Jaina cocked an eyebrow. "It's okay, I know you meant to say 'Wow, you've really grown up and handle your issues in a mature manner now.' And thank you."

"You're welcome," Anakin replied not-that-smoothly. Except Jaina got a weird look for that, because who in this family did that?

"What?" she asked.

"Nothing, that just sounded weird," he sid with a shrug.

You'd think one of them would have concretely noticed this trend, but no.

"The thank you or the growing up?" she teased.

"What if it's both?" Anakin teased back.

"Then I'd say both things were going to happen eventually and you should get used to it now," she grinned.

"Fine. But it's still weird," Anakin insisted. "Do you really have to leave soon? I've missed you."

"Yeah, I do," she said, a little reluctantly. "But I'm back really pretty often and I'm always around by comm. Sped-up time means I even answer stuff faster than I normally would."
