The Perk [Thursday early evening]

Luke had gotten his father's message, but it had taken him a few days to extricate himself from the mess of politics in Coruscant and arrive in Fandom.

Now he was nursing a cup of coffee and wondering how exactly to broach things with Leia. He finally closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and reached out into the Force.

Leia had returned to the island and her hotel room after visiting Rory; she hadn't wanted to linger too long and be there when Anakin came back, because she wasn't ready to face him yet. She was lost in her thoughts when she heard Luke's voice in her mind. At first she thought it was her Luke, realizing she'd come to Fandom to confront their alternate universe father, but the presence felt stronger, more confident, and she realized who it was.

The hotel wasn't far from the Perk, so she quickly made her way there. "Luke," she said as she came inside.

Luke stood up from the table and reached a hand out, uncertain if she wanted him to hug her or not. "Tough couple of days, huh."

A hug was something she could very much use, and so she went for one. "You could say that," she murmured, squeezing him tightly.

Luke poured as much support and reassurance as he was capable of into the Force for her and held on just as tightly, waiting for her to talk when she was ready to.

She'd managed to hold it together so far, but around her twin, even if he wasn't her real twin, she could feel her walls starting to crack. "I still can't believe this," she said. "It's like some sort of awful dream."

He nodded, remembering far too clearly how it had felt to have everything he'd known be wrong. "Except worse because you won't wake up from it," he murmured.

"I don't understand how this is possible," she said, drawing back. "How someone like Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader could be one and the same. Is the Dark Side really that powerful?"

Leia nodded. "I did, once. I was determined to bring up several issues with him but he frightened me so much I could barely speak. Vader was there, too."

"He terrified you because you could tell what he was," Luke replied. "Your body was warning you away in the same way it would stop you from trying to touch fire. He felt evil. Dad...Dad felt more complicated."

"He didn't feel all that different to me on the Death Star," Leia said.

Well, it'd been much easier for her to cop an attitude with Vader. She never could've managed it with Palpatine. Maybe there was something to on some level recognizing Vader for who he was.

Luke's first instinct was to yelp at what she'd been doing on the second Death Star, but he'd learned (some) patience over the years and stayed silent until he could figure it out.

"I'll bet you weren't really looking to find the good in him then," he replied gently instead.

First Death Star, Luke. She didn't even know there was a second yet.

"Palpatine scared me. Vader did, too, but not as much for some reason. It was easier for me to stand up to him but I never gave it much thought why," she said with a little shrug. "But complicated was never a word I would've used to describe how I felt." Now, though, if she encountered him, that would be a different story.

Leia sat down with a heavy sigh. "Complicated sounds about right," she said. "I've wanted Vader dead for years. Even more so after Alderaan. But to find out he's our father...."
