The Devil's Nest- Sunday

The island was overrun by children again this weekend, which Susan never particularly minded. It tended to make guarding the door more interesting, at the very least.

What she did mind, however, was that this seemed to be an excuse for nothing but really horrible music. Susan was beginning to think that part of the hiring process of the various DJ's was testing their ability to try her patience.

The Devil's Nest was open.

Death's adopted granddaughter, meet the daughter of a mortal incarnation of death.

Not that Dalia knew the first half of that. She just knew it was a good night to explore, and this was where her feet had taken her.

"Hi," she said cheerily, holding out her hand. "We both know I'm not 21, so can you just stamp me? I don't drink, anyhow."

"Honesty saves a lot of time in the end, right?" Dalia said. "Thanks."

And then she was on her way.

Rhaego had done enough legwork (read: barely any) to find where he could get some wine in this strange place. His mother had only had water (different from the water at home) and some sort of...juice available to him.

Unfortunately, he had chosen the bar that observed drinking laws. Not that he knew this. "What is that?" he asked in accented English, eyeing the stamp.

He also still had not put on a shirt, despite his mother trying very hard earlier today.

"Eye-dee?" Rhaego asked, staring at the girl. "I do not know this."

"I have sixteen name days," he told her proudly.

Rhaego looked at the stamp again and shook his head. "No mark," he decided. "I do not want."

He still wanted to go in. But no thanks on the stamp.

Rhaego really didn't understand what the word 'alcohol' meant, either, on top of age limits for anything.

"What is alk-hol?" Rhaego asked. "I want wine, not alk-hol."

"Alcohol," he said slowly. "Wine is alcohol, and I cannot have alcohol because I am young?" He made a face. "I am the son of Khal Drogo and the Queen of Westeros. No one will deny me."

Sorry, Susan.

Rhaego stared at her, puzzled. "Your master is a beast?"

"There you are," Dany exclaimed, striding up. "I've been looking for you everywhere -- why are you trying to get into the bar?" You'd think it'd be easier to find a six-foot-plus shirtless barbarian wandering around this island, but not when you also had a six year-old (who Dany had left with her father for the moment.)

She paused in her berating to add, "Hello, Susan! I'm sorry if he's been rude to you. He is his father's son, and Drogo was never particularly polite."

"She will not permit me wine," Rhaego sulked.

"Yes, you are too young here, despite being older than I am, actually," Dany said, making a face. "I think it's very silly, too."

/"She makes me angry, this woman who guards the door,"/ Rhaego added, switching to Dothraki.

/"She is doing her job, and you will be kind because she is my friend,"/ Dany replied evenly. "Remember to use the Common Tongue in the company of others, Rhaego. And you're not having any wine anyway because I said so. Now come along."

She took his arm, waving back at Susan. "Sorry again."

And look who was back for the second time in a row!

"I'm not twenty-one," Maria said right off the bat when she got to the door. "Obviously." She stuck out an arm. "Hand-stamp me?"

"That's me," Maria confirmed with a quick grin. "Thanks!"

And off into the bar she went. Mainly just so she could be a nerd in public rather than in her room.

Who knew where she got that from?

Dalia had a hand stamp, not that it made a difference in her order. She got a cherry soda and tried not to wince too hard at the music as she sipped at it.

She was Jono's daughter, after all.

Armed with a hand stamp and a complete lack of interest in alcohol, Maria settled at the bar to sketch technology schematics on a napkin and drink a Shirley Temple.

Yeah, Fandom was kind of nice.

"I'm surprised you can read with this music playing," Dalia offered, leaning towards Maria. "Whatcha working on?"

Yes, she was That Person.

"Designs," Maria said, quietly folding up the napkin and slipping it into a pocket. "Who are you?"

[identity profile] pyrechild.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Dalia Starsmore," Dalia answered, not sounding offended. "Who are you? Didn't mean to interrupt your work."

Re: The Bar

"Maria Stark," Maria answered. "It's okay, I'm used to distractions. My dad does his coding with hard rock on."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] pyrechild.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"My dad's a musician," Dalia said. "I hide out in our attic to do homework while he's playing."

"I'm not sure we have an attic," said Maria thoughtfully. "Big house, though. Lots of soundproofing if I ask JARVIS nicely."

He was completely enjoying his childlessness, thank you very much.

Unless you counted Pam, and if you called her a child, she'd eat you.
