Stark Industries; Wednesday [ 05/09 ].

Now, this was the sort of place where Samus could feel at home. Much more so than any place that sold decorative and scented animal-shaped soaps and sensible underwear, at any rate. She was already getting to work on a new project, deftly managing her work one-handed while conducting business via her helmet's comm link.

"Yes, I'll need you to send me a couple of crates....Yes, I know...I know. Listen, when I say that the technology on this planet is abysmal, that's not hyperbole. When have you ever known me to exaggerate? ....no, that was being kind. I need them before next week, can you do that for me?"

A little bit of spark flew when she turned some attention to sodering something into place with the gun and, yeah, this was definitely much more like it.

Stark Industries is open.

Victor hadn't spent as much time exploring the island as he would have liked just yet, so he took a long walk after his classes.

When he saw the Stark Industries sign, he figured he had to go on in. He stood just inside the doorway for a minute, kind of squinting at Samus as he tried to assess whether the figure was a robot, or a human in armor. After he realized it was the latter:

"... hey."

Samus lifted her head when she heard someone coming in. "Hey, I'll call you back," she informed her helmet. "I've got a live one."

Well, mostly, she figured after her scanner did a quick sweep on the boy, and her intrigue tilted her head a little. "Can we help you?"

She was half-tempted to tell the boy that if he was looking for parts, odds were he was S.O.L. until she managed to get some more...modern shipments in. She was working on it!

Victor shook his head. "Maybe? I'm mostly just new in town and looking around." And maybe stalking that Stark name just a little. "What do you do here?"

Samus shrugged a little. "Mostly repairs, special projects. Upgrades. Technological and mechanical work, more often than not."

Underneath the slight static quality of her voice through her helmet, there might have been a tone to suggest these things might be right up his alley.

A hesitation, because, yes, it was exactly up his alley. Victor needed a workshop, though he hadn't expected to find one this soon. "And it's Tony Stark's place?"

"I got it from his father, actually," Samus said. "Though he owned it at one point, too, and not the one who lives here as a student."

There was a brief pause. For all the technology this planet lacked, it made up for it with time travel and alternate dimensions.

"It's complicated."

"Starting to get that," Victor said wryly, and rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't suppose you let students mess around in here, or hire them, or ... anything?"

"I haven't hired any of them yet myself," Samus said. "I've only had the run of the place for about a week or so. Why? Looking for a job?"

"I wasn't, but I'd be interested if you have something," Victor said. "At home nobody will hire kids unless their parents can sign. Mine can't. Don't know if that's a problem for you."

He was hoping labor laws were a little different in Maryland.

"Believe me," said Samus, "if that kid who works on Sunday managed to get this job without signing, anyone can. I do have two spots open, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. One less thing I'll have to worry about in the long run."

"I have nothing to do Tuesdays," Victor told her almost before she was done talking. "Like, nothing. What would you need me to do before I could start?"

This wasn't just for him to get his gear head on: He could send money home to Nico, at least a little, at least if she'd take it. That didn't suck at all.

"Let me double check the...paperwork,"--yes, that word said with the hint of a sigh--"to see what you'll need. Right now, I think I'll just need your name."

"It's Victor," Victor said. "Mancha. And ... maybe I could help you with the paperwork?"

Suck-up.

"Samus Aran," she offered back, brow lifting behind her visor slightly. "Welcome aboard, Mancha. We'll worry about it on Tuesday. By then, everything should be digitized, anyway, and we can save ourselves the trouble."

"I am way better with digital databases," Victor promised in relief. "And thanks. See you Tuesday."

He was curious about the armor, but that seemed like the kind of thing you didn't ask somebody who had just offered you an awesome job out of the blue.

Samus nodded, with a little sound of affirmation since nodding in the suit wasn't really picked up on by a lot of people. And, since she knew the job was something that sort of just popped up, she asked, "Was there something you needed?"

She was starting to think there was a lot more to this Stark business than she'd first expected.

"Not right this second," Victor assured her. "I mean, if you have any nanotechnology circuits or biomechanical supplies that might eventually be really helpful, but I wasn't looking for anything in particular."

"I basically had to special order every single part the last time I had to fix this thing," Samus said, a little sardonically as she rapped the end of her laser gun on her helmet, "so that's definitely not something in stock right now. But that's something else I'm working on."

Victor nodded sympathetically. "Figured, but you have to try," he said. "Where's your tech come from, anyhow? It's not the same as anything I've seen before."

"It's a Chozo design," Samus offered, not even hesitating to keep mum on the topic because she would actually be surprised if that meant anything to anyone on this entire planet, "modeled off of their exoskeletons, called a Power Suit. Even if all that didn't happen in a galaxy as far away from mine, it's the only one in existence. So that didn't help with getting new parts for it, either."

Next time the suit got fried, she was so making Gardner and his girlfriend foot the bill.

"No, being unique makes repairs kind of tough," Victor had to agree. He wasn't even just thinking about himself. "We have this, uh, vehicle at home -- a hopping ship that looks like a frog? Mad scientist tech. Anyhow, it doesn't break often, but when it does trying to get the stuff we need to fix it is a major pain."
