Over the last few weeks, Jack had come to realize two things.

First, he liked the relative security and isolation of the island and liked working for Eric. Not only did he live with people he cared about, but Fandom was a firm base for him to come to terms with his curse without risking much of anything. It wasn't precisely home, but he didn't even know where that would be anymore.

Second, he still wanted to go back to university in the fall. Which required finding a school within an easy distance from the island, applying, and being admitted. Not impossible, but the deadline pressure bore down on him.

So this Friday lunchtime found him sitting at a table by the window in the bakery, turkey sandwich by one hand and college guidebook in the other. The universities with strong supernatural studies divisions were getting a harder look than the rest.
