The Perk, Wednesday Evening

Tony had been very good about his injuries. Very, very good. He hadn't even put on the suit to fight crime with Bobby when they were in New York! That was, like, insane levels of self control there.

But there was one thing he could not resist. That's right, coffee.

One tiny, little cup of coffee couldn't hurt, right? Riiiiiight. Tony was just going to hold his sweet, liquid crack close and enjoy it before someone found out and tried to take it away from him.

Clint was well aware that to most people, the evening was not the right time for coffee. But most people didn't have a stack of paperwork the size of a toddler waiting for them at home, so Clint figured his reasoning was solid. He noticed that he wasn't alone at the Perk, but that was more out of the habit of taking stock of a room than anything else. Once he had his coffee in hand, he went over to where the sugar was, adding packet after packet until the coffee started to reach the proper consistency.

And most people didn't need it to function. So... they were weirdos.

Tony nodded at the new guy over his coffee, fiddling with his tablet to work out more coding to go into Potential AI That Is Not Going To Stalk Him.

Clint glanced over and nodded back, watching the kid work on his computer. "Is that a fun game?" he asked.

Tony snorted, replacing part of the code before closing it out. "Fun work. Different in that a game means it ends."

"But work doesn't? That doesn't sound like much fun." Since when did teenagers want to do real work?

"I can always come up with a new project for work," Tony replied, offering a hand. "Are you new?"

"The new guy smell hasn't washed off yet, huh?" Clint laughed and shook his hand. "Yeah, name's Clint."

"Tony," he replied, nodding at the chair across from him. "It's a thing here. Small island and all that."

Clint grabbed two more packets of sugar before sitting down. "Yeah, everybody knows everybody, right? I'm still getting used to that."

Victor had been in town -- with its sweet, sweet, free wifi that didn't drop out like the signal at the tents -- a fair amount over the last couple days, and tonight was no exception. He flashed a quick grin when he spotted Tony and wandered over to the table, laptop bag still across his body.

"Hey. It's been a while."

Not really that long, but Victor hadn't known anyone in Fandom all that long.

"Hey!" Tony said, waving back. "Been... strange few weeks."

"Good strange, bad strange, or special strange?" Victor asked, dropping into a seat at the next table over.

He kind of figured it was the last one, even before he asked. Special strange seemed to go with being from the kind of place they were from.

"Mix of the last two," he replied. At least his bruises had all finally faded!

"Want to tell me?" Victor checked, after a slight, sympathetic grimace -- he didn't want to hear things had been bad. "Or are you just trying to get back to normal?"

He wouldn't blame Tony if it was the latter one. His curiosity would be disappointed, but he could live with that.

Tony cleared his throat, shaking his head. "Long story with decidedly not good guys. Ended up with me needing some emergency heart surgery."

"That sucks," Victor said, genuine concern in his voice for the first time. "I'm glad you made it through, but wow. Are you going to be okay?"

"Oh yeah, I'm--" Sore, tired of having to take medication, wanting to beat up people in a suit of armor. "--doing just fine now. You've almost made it though a whole session, I see."

Topher eyed the coffee. "Is that allowed?"

"Yes." Not at all. He'd bite anyone who tried to take it, though.

"Good," Topher said, satisfied enough with that answer to flop down in a seat. And right onto a nee topic her went! "How do people minimize awkwardness?"

It was... not a subject he had much experience in.

"I might need more information on what the awkwardness is."

Topher winced. "Sleeping five inches away from Billy?"

"Well." That was kind of awkward. "Long showers before going to bed?"

Topher squawked. "THAT IS NOT APPROPRIATE AT ALL."
