Magic Box, Monday

Surreal was cranky.

No, she wasn't going to tell you why she was a snarly-witch today. No, she didn't have issues regarding her sire, thank you. And if she did, they weren't your business.

Which was why the surly witchling was behind the counter, practicing some knot-magic very intently. She didn't have the gift for it a hearth-witch did, but that wasn't going to stop her from turning her bit of cord into a mass of knots out of spite.

Cara, meanwhile, was completely fine, shut up and pass the rum, you furry little eavesdroppers. So fine in fact that she didn't even bother wasting the effort of coming up with an excuse for coming by the store today, that might have taken away from her fineness. "Surreal."

Cara's definition of fine, mightn't have been the same as most people's.

Distraction, which oddly enough Surreal's company was good for. Not that she'd had anywhere near enough rum to actually use her words and say that, so instead she just shrugged.

"What are you doing?" she asked, coming over to the counter. "Looks interesting." Cara liked knots, big surprise there.

It totally counted as smiling. No matter what some people claimed. "I take it the deserve it."

Cara used a finger to follow the pattern of the cord without actually touching it. "Nice work." Look, she really liked knots. "Though the using them for magic's new."

That sounded close enough to something Zedd would say that Cara was going to assume Surreal knew what she was talking about.

"I'd like that," Cara said, briefly smiling back as she took the knot, running gloved fingers over it to see how it was put together. "I could show you some of the knots Mord'Sith use, they're useful even without magic."
