Sam was pretty much recovered after his terrible weekend. He'd gotten past it (just like Natalie had said and he'd rejected at the time) and now he was back on an even keel. There were several repairs that had to be made today so that's what Sam was doing. There were several skateboard parts on the counter and a one wheeled BMX bike next to him behind the counter.

It was shaping up to be a pretty busy and Sam was looking forward to it.

Well, Natalie had another paper bag with food in it for him as she came by in the afternoon, so she supposed he was needed. You know, to eat his lunch.

"Greetings, skate shop," she said as she came in, mostly to announce her presence.

"Greetings, customer," Sam said, looking up when he heard her voice. "And what can the skate shop and it's employee help you with today?"

Natalie shook the bag as she came towards the counter. "Well, you can remember to eat."

"You act like I don't ever remember to eat," Sam joked, pushing aside some skateboard parts and running a wet wipe over the counter before she got there. "I'm not that skinny."

"I wasn't even insinuating that." And she knew he wasn't serious, but she liked her facts. He had to know that by now. "Your weight is fine, I'm sure."

"I am hungry, though," Sam said, leaning across the counter. "Thanks for bringing me lunch, Natalie. Whatcha got in there?"

"Some different kind of a vegetarian sandwich thing the guy said would be delicious," Natalie shrugged as she set the bag on the counter. She really didn't know about these things. "You're welcome."

Sam reached for the bag to start pulling the contents of the bag out. "How's it going with you? Enjoying campground life?"

"The internet connection is poor and Jace occasionally mistakes me for someone who should feed him," Natalie shrugged again, leaning against the counter. "And if I don't sleep well, I end up waking up Toby. Other than that, it's okay, I guess."

"You're not sleeping well?" Sam asked, brow furrowing. He'd been a little caught up in his own things and the separation in the tents meant he didn't get to talk to her as much as usual. "What's wrong?"

Natalie gave that the slightest little dismissive gesture of her hand. "Nothing. Just had a nightmare one night."

And then spent most of the rest of it sitting outside the tent, but that was just a detail.

"Nightmare?" Sam asked, taking a bite of his lunch. "What about?"

[whenshewasnice]

"Just nightmare things," she said. That seemed like a fittingly generic way to put it. "Nothing in particular."

"Is it still causing you trouble sleeping?" Sam asked quietly. "Might not just be a nightmare thing if you're still affected."

[whenshewasnice]

"It was just a nightmare thing," Natalie told him. Mildly. "Not affected anymore."

"And you don't wanna talk about it?" He wanted to help, of course. Or just comfort, if he could.

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie gave another idle shhrug. "Not much to talk about. Had a nightmare. Stayed up most of the rest of the night. That's it."

"Why didn't you call me?" Sam asked. "I would have come over, stayed with you."

[whenshewasnice]

"Left my phone in the tent. Didn't feel like waking everyone up by going to find it."

Also she probably wouldn't have called anyway. She was stubborn like that.

"And if you hadn't left your phone in there, would you have called me?" Sam asked because he had a few guesses.

[whenshewasnice]

Natalie was going to skip the answer he'd already guessed, because she knew he had.

"I could deal with it by myself."

Sighing, Sam took a few bites of his sandwich in silence because he'd almost forgotten how brick walls could feel with her. And her having nightmares was unusual so he was concerned.
