The Perk, Wednesday Afternoon

Calculating a multiversal time difference was tricky when math had not been your strong suit in the first place. See, Kate had grabbed a portal right after work without even changing her clothes first (though she did have a summery dress tucked in her bag), because she'd come to the conclusion that that was the only way she'd even make it to the party.

But she had to admit she hadn't been terribly surprised to come to Fandom and realize she was hours early. This crap happened all the time.

So, there was a SkyKans flight attendant at the Perk, now, buying an iced coffee (and yes, they were finally serving her without side-eyeing her – possibly because she was obviously allowed to handle caffeine at her work as well) before taking a seat at a table by the window to figure out what she wanted to do with this extra time.

[ooc: Kate is here mainly for a prearranged chance encounter, but the post is open, naturally!]

Despite his naturally sunny disposition, Frank was not really an outdoorsy, loving-the-tent-life kind of guy. So while he tried to spend at least some time around the campfires every day, his very clear preference was for spending as much time in town as possible. Like at the Perk. For coffee with fancy Italian-sounding names. That made him cultured, you know.

What he hadn't expected upon his arrival today was a really, really pretty stewardess at one of the tables. He did his best to contain himself, but a dorky grin immediately spread across his face.

"Whoa," he said quietly. No, Frank. Not the right thing to say. "Hi."

"I didn't know there was an airport nearby," Frank babbled, because that was the first thing that came to his mind. "I mean. I'm Frank. I was just going to get a doughnut or something. Do you want one?"

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I've been to BWI," Frank said as he made his way over to the counter for the promised doughnuts. "When I first got here. But it's not that close. Like I wouldn't think a busy stewardess like you would come all the way out here just for coffee. Don't you have really cool parties to go to and everything?"

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"...What?"

Yeah, Frank had never heard that term before. Being from 1959 and all.

"Oh." Frank mulled that over. "I'm from 1959," he offered by way of an excuse. "Back home everyone still says it."

Right, then. 'Flight attendant.' It didn't sound as cute, but okay, he could go with it.

"...What kind of doughnut do you want?"

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, that's nothing," Frank told her enthusiastically. "My first week here, I had to adjust to remote controls and color television and rap music and everything. For you it's just like... suddenly summer."

[identity profile] catchmeifyoucan.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's annoying," Frank conceded, coming back over from the counter and offering the pretty stewardess -- ahem, flight attendant -- a chocolate doughnut. "But it got you a free doughnut, at least. And better to be extra-prepared with a winter coat than be dressed for summer and have it snow."

Luke had no intention of going to the party tonight since he had bad luck with solstices and he figured he should lay low. But it was still hot as hell out so he could risk going into town and getting an iced coffee.

Which was good because otherwise he wouldn't have seen Kate. "Hey!"

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think you might end up having a lot of people flock here. It's hot as hell outside, and I say that as someone who has actually been to the Underworld," Luke said. "What brings you here?"

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that situation made Luke laugh a little. "Did you at least bring extra clothes?"

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"If I was staying at the dorms I'd offer my room but, alas, we're stuck in tents," Luke said, making a face. "It sucks."

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"They did not. It's awful. I mean, I've done a lot of camping in my day but that was because I had run off from home," he said, shaking his head. "Me and Percy share a tent with two girls."

"You'd think differently of cabins if you saw Camp Half Blood. The cabins there were awesome," Luke said. "Well not Hermes cabin because it was overcrowded and we're a bunch of messy thieves, but the other ones were nice. Hephaestus cabin was my favorite, it has mini fridges and game systems built into each bed."
