Demon Marcus, Sunday, All Day
Sparkle was taking a walk on the wild side again for his Demon Marcus shift this weekend, decked out in his rattiest jeans and a tank top that looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks.
Because it most likely hadn't been.
He figured, since the cheap crap was somewhere near the back of the store, he could just make up some excuse about how he was trying to appeal to a wider range of potential customers who came in. After all, if you were here for the fancy shit, you saw that on all the displays on your way into the building in the first place.
... Okay, that, and Sparkle really wasn't in any mood to do his laundry. So what? If they wanted him to clean his clothing more often, they wouldn't make everyone sleep in tents.
[Open and flying without OCD today!]

Yes. Yes, that had been over a month ago.

Hi, Anna! There were probably sane shop clerks on the island somewhere! Sparkle was not one of them!
"So, you need shoes, huh? That, I can help you out with."
[Except that I'm crashing for the night, so would you mind a touch of slowplay?]

"But, yes, I do need shoes. People tend to look at you odd when you go barefoot everywhere, fancy that."
((NP! I'm mostly facepalming at myself for forgetting to hit 'post comment' earlier...))

"Well, it's summer," he pointed out, reasonably. "I once spent a whole summer without shoes back home. Which I guess kind of sucked. Pavement gets frickin' hot in like mid July and you have to be careful to look down for like broken glass and dog crap. But, you know, it's not a bad time of year to not have them, if you have to go without. Winter is shittier."
Really, Sparkle?
"What kind of shoes were you looking for? We have all the fancy stuff up at the front, but stuff you actually feel safe wearing places is closer to the back. You know, the stuff that doesn't cost like an arm and a leg and maybe your firstborn or something, too."
[Ahah! C'est la vie! Night!]

((Night!))

You know, which might or might not be surprising, considering his wardrobe today.
"Something that goes with your dress, but isn't going to kill your feet if you go wearing them around everywhere? You have any feelings one way or the other about ballet flats? They're kinda vintage, kinda everyday, and we have plenty of variety, if you're looking for something to match."

Sparkle couldn't deny that the oxfords would probably go with the dress she always wore, vintage and all that. But unless she was going for that Wicked-Witch-of-the-West look, no offense Elphaba, he couldn't sell somebody a pair of those in good conscience.
Look, he didn't exercise his conscience often, but when he did, it mattered.
"Just because we're in some fancy boarding school doesn't mean you have to pick shoes my grandmother wouldn't even wear." He glanced at the sandals, and then wrinkled his nose a little. Oh god, why hadn't he burned those yet? "So, heels are right out?"

His eyes lingered on another pair, and then he shook his head.
"Pleeenty of variety."

Maybe someone should give Sparkle the memo saying that the point was to sell the shoes, here.

"We have the same ones in black, if that's what you're worried about," he noted, after a moment's thought spent acting totally casual, thanks. "Or maybe something that wipes clean pretty easy? Something in a sort of vinyl or leather or something? These are pretty basic, but the upkeep would be simple enough. Hose 'em off if you run through the mud, just make sure you dry them good, too."
They were just... the opposite of sparkly. Kind of lacy. Girls liked lace, right?
