The Gig, Saturday

Dani didn't think that suntan lotion would be good for the horses, and she didn't want to clean it off of them. So it was another inside day for everyone at The Gig. At least the horses and the angry calves were content to munch on the popsicles Dani retrieved for them.

[Open! Though you may not want to feed popsicles to real horses.]

But they would love them. Sugar was the best, after all...

"Hello," Jaime called, bringing his mount up to a stop once he'd come close to the stables. The other followed suit easily, used to this arrangement by now.

"I'm sure they'd like that," Jaime replied dryly. He let go of the reins, left hand on the saddle for support as he swung down to the ground. "If you have room, that is."

He dug into one of the bags attached to the saddle, finding a silver stag easily enough. Then, he tossed it over to her to prove that the unofficial motto of his house held true. "For assistance in settling them."

Since his squire was... most likely in the Riverlands somewhere. Gods preserve him.

"Honour," he said, patting the large war horse he'd just dismounted on the neck. "And Glory. My squire thought himself clever to make certain I'll always have both with me."

Personally, he hadn't named a horse since he was the same age as the lad. It tended to make it harder when they were cut down beneath you in battle.

"They're war horses," he replied wryly. "If they didn't know how to handle a surprise, I'd be one dead knight."

[identity profile] givehimahand.livejournal.com 2012-06-30 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"What are they meant for?" he asked, mostly out of idle curiosity as he reached down to check Honour's hooves for stones. He could manage most things without a squire, at least.

"Ah, a racer. Then of course they spook easily," Jaime replied. moving to the next leg as the horse stood patiently for him. "A war horse is a weapon. I would not go to battle with a dull sword or poorly maintained armor anymore than I would with a horse that turns to flee the melee."

Jaime gave her an amused look over the horse. "This is your stable then?"

"And your name might be...?"

"Jaime Lannister." In a land where none knew him as the Kingslayer. This was almost novel. "My friends call me names not fit for polite company."

Which was... almost correct. As Ser Ilyn could not call him anything and Brienne had called him Kingslayer. By the gods, those were the only ones he considered friends these days?

"Teaching, it would seem. And visiting family."

Oh no, that was what he'd just left.

"Just visiting. It has been too long since I've seen my brother." You know. When it didn't involve prison, kinslaying, and awkward confessions.

"How does a gold dragon a fortnight sound for their care and grooming?" he asked with a smile that tended to put the tavern wenches into giggles.

"It is a coin. The same size as the silver stag," he explained. "You have my thanks, Dani."
