The Devil's Nest: Saturday, July 21

Signs of a slow night at the Devil's Nest:

* Elaborate construction framework built of saltines and plastic fruit-swords set up at one end of bar

* Random placement of olives with little pig faces drawn on them in Squeezy Cheese on various beams of said framework

* Bo and Tiny at other end of bar taking turns with large rubber band, shooting maraschino cherries, pineapple wedges and marshmallows in the general direction of the olive-pigs

* The brief lull in that frantic activity while Tiny went out to Turtle & Canary to buy some blueberries and licorice bites to complete the original set of birds

* Except for the stupid green boomerang toucan because seriously, who doesn't hate those things?

* Yeah.

[...IDK but now I want to do that.]

Where your bartender might have eaten a few of the red birds when no one was looking, but Tiny could have alllll the licorice ones, thank you.

Jaina left the dance early ~~because someone was accidentally gone all day~~. She'd gone, she'd had her first big social obligation, and now she wanted to be somewhere a little more comfortable.

And she took one look at the bar and said, "Eric's not here, huh?"

Bo grinned and used her fingers to flick a blueberry toward the nearest olive-pig. Damn. Missed by a mile.

"What makes you say that?"

"It's one of my superpowers." She did glance back towards the VIP section, though, half expecting him to be texting Pam and pretending this wasn't happening. "Is someone winning here?"

Bo made a face. "So far? The pigs." She could almost hear them laughing at her down there.

"Aim for the bottom, it's easier to take down the whole structure in this setup." Look, she'd played a lot of Angry Birds lately. A lot.

"Yeah, but then we have to build the whole thing over again."

Spoken like someone who'd tried it, yes.

"Is there another way to kill the... pig... olive things?" Only in Fandom. Probably.

"Knock 'em off without knocking down the whole house cards?" Bo suggested. "Or at least only take out a few floors at a time."

"See, this is why the pigs are winning," Jaina reasoned.

"It's easier on my phone," Bo complained. "Do you know how hard it is to get saltines balance on each other?"

"I've seen it done with cards? Other than that I've got no expertise on saltine stacking," she admitted.

Bo stopped herself before she actually started talking about how they balanced better salty side down and in a pinch, some cheese whiz made a decent fixative, and just asked with a sigh, "On the scale of pathetic to bored, exactly where would you say this project falls? Feel free to lie generously."

"It'd only be pathetic if you hit every single pig," Jaina lied generously.

"My self-image thanks you." The pigs, not so much. "So what can I get you that doesn't have olives in it?"

"Just a Coke," she said, because Jaina was like the one person ever to not automatically take her current situation as a damn good reason to drink. "Might as well save all the garnishes from the drink, really."

"Fair enough." She did, however, stick a purple paper umbrella in said Coke. "The pigs would just try to use it for a shield anyway."

"Are they anthropomorphic now?" Jaina wondered. It would not be outside the realm of possibility here.

Great, now Bo had to check.

One of the olives on the highest level of the structure was rolling around a bit, but since Tiny had just walked past, Bo chalked it up to minor seismic tremors.

"No, thank God. Not yet, anyway."

"Good. That's one thing I'd rather not see happen here," Jaina said, sipping her drink. "I just don't need to listen to that much frustrated yelling from people."

Watch out for flying marshmallows. Just saying. Tiny doesn't know his own strength.

The sad thing is that they'd probably be shooting at evil olives even if Eric was there.

Seriously, olives are evil.
