Cafe Luke's, Monday

Vincent missed Eureka's jukebox. Nothing helped a slow day pick up the pace like a little Pink while bussing tables or basting pheasants. Sure, Luke's had a sound system, but Vincent almost never turned it on. That was just asking to draw too much attention to the little restaurant -- and more importantly, to the several human-sized hidey holes scattered about the restaurant for those who might need to duck away from loyalist patrols.

It'd been exciting for awhile. Eureka almost never had to deal with a totalitarian regime. The shine had worn off months ago, though, and now, Vincent mostly just missed things.

Today's specials
Grilled chicken with sprouts
Bran muffins
Fresh fruit salad

Like flavor. But too many fancy, fun dishes might draw attention to him, too.

Luke's was open.

"Get me some food."

Kerrigan's manners had not improved with Umbridge's regime, and she leveled a cold stare at Vincent, as if expecting him to conjure her a meal within seconds of her entry.

"Something to eat," Kerrigan said. "As much of it as you can drag up."

She was such a charmer. Blame it on being a telepath.

"I'm allergic to sarcastic commentary," Kerrigan commented dryly.

Her eyes swept over the restaurant, all-business. She was always on duty.

Kerrigan's eyes narrowed. "Seen anything suspicious lately?"

"Uh huh," Kerrigan said. She wasn't listening to him anymore - she was concentrating on listening for anything... well, suspicious... using her telepathy.

"It's been quiet here for a while, right?"

"Of course," Kerrigan replied. "You look away for one second and they're leaping off the cliffs like rats." Her upper lip curled.

Kerrigan tossed some bills onto the counter without really taking her eyes off of Vincent the whole time. "I know you're lying to me," she said conversationally, "Almost everyone on this damned island does."

"One of these days I'm going to have a reason to take your head off," she said pleasantly, took her food, and turned around.
