Community Center Class: How to Break Minds & Influence People

Emma was at the front of the room, dressed all in white as usual. Thank goodness summer was almost over, and she could return to New York and the Hellfire Club when this was finished.

"Fear," she said crisply, raking her eyes over the assembled students. "If you don't possess metahuman abilities or magic, it's the best way of making new friends and shaping the way they see things."

"Once upon a time, during the Victorian era, women were not allowed to show ankles or elbows, because it was deemed indecent. That just made people want to see more. Fear works much the same way; if they know the extent of how far you'll go or what you can do, there is no more reason to fear. If you keep something just out of sight, and they know you're holding back, their imaginations will run wild with what they think you can do."

"I have an advantage that I can reach into someone's mind and see what their greatest fear is and turn it back against them as easily as breathing. But what do you do when you don't have my talents? How do you find fear, and how do you exploit it?"

The Madri sat in the back which strict attention to everything that Miss Frost was saying.

They were also taking extensive notes.

"We find that threats and intimidation work best for us," the representative of the Madri stated after politely raising his hand.

And he then gave Frost an evil grin.

"And of course strength through numbers."

"I don't bluff," Cassie offered. It was true, the Imperio spell had worked too well on her for that. "I find that showing them what I'm capable of without warning them ahead of time can work very well."

Cassie had learned very well that it was better to strike first.

"I find it helpful to inflict injuries from time to time," said Hoshi. "If you rough them up too often, then they came to expect it and lose their fear. But if they don't know what's coming, then they are afraid."

Hoshi wasn't afraid to administer a little force to get information out of someone, though there were little moments when the spell slipped and she felt just as bad as her victims.
