Cafe Luke's, Tuesday
"Oh your poor little thing." Vincent was going through his dwindling food stocks, checking on what he might possibly manage to order in, and what was a lost cause. He held up the last little roma tomato still clinging to just-ripe-enough and held it up to the light. "Look at you, all alone. Just what are we going to do with you?"
Sing, of course.
"The sun has left and forgotten me,
It's dark, I cannot see.
Why does this rain pour down,
I'm going to drown
In a sea of deep confusion.
Somebody told me, I don't know who,
Whenever you are sad and blue,
And you're feeling all alone and left behind,
Just take a look inside you and you'll find:
You've got to hold on, hold on through the night,
Hang on, things will be alright,
Even when it's dark,
And not a bit of spark
will bring the sunshine from above
Spreading rays of sunny love,"
The dishwasher stepped out of the back, playing a flute carved out of a large carrot. The cook played an jazzy rhythm on a soup pot. Vincent spun around the cafe, holding the tomato aloft.
"Just hang on, hang on to the vine,
Stay on, soon you'll be divine,
If you start to cry,
Look up to the sky,
'Cause something's coming up ahead
To turn your tears to dew instead.
And so I hold on to this advice,
When change is hard and not so nice,
If you listen to your heart the whole night through,
Your sunny someday will come one day soon to you."
Vincent sighed as the song came to a close. He lowered the tomato and looked around.
"Well," he said. "That was weird."
Today's special:
Tomato bisque
Luke's was open.
