Devil's Nest [Friday evening]
Eric was in his usual spot in the VIP section ignoring Tiny, who seemed weirdly upbeat today.
You know, for Tiny.
If Tiny had gotten laid last night, Eric had decided, he just didn't want to know.
At all.
Ever.
It'd be easier to stop thinking about it if the DJ wasn't playing Marvin Gaye.
Eric would be grateful if you came in and distracted him. Not enough to cut you a break on your drink, but still. Grateful.

Look, if you wanted a lurk-off, you'd come to the right club.
If you wanted a walk-off and you picked the wrong weekend, you'd come to the right club.

He exhaled in a huff, trying very hard to ignore the lack if a heartbeat thing. "Jack mentioned this place was hiring."
Jack his new wolf bro.

It wasn't a question. Eric would have noticed Derek.

Not nice, Eric.

Derek bared teeth at that, possibly resembling a smile. A very loosely defined smile. Filled with rage. He had skills, yo. "Cute."

"I don't shed anymore than humans."

"That's not my experience with werewolves."
Tearing up sofas, slobbering everywhere, running around naked all the time Alcide...

"You need a job? How old are you?"
no subject
"Twenty-one." But if he grew a beard, he looked older. Just sayin'.

Unless, you know, you were already in trouble. And then you just were screwed.

That was going to get a lot more staring now, Eric. If only a photographer was there, this would be a super intense ad for Cosmo.

Very succinct, Derek.

And no, he wouldn't really tell you, either.

"I have the job then?"
no subject
Beat.
"I'll probably say yes."
no subject
"Any other rules?" Because Derek couldn't resist, it seemed.

It smelled, of course, like leather and emo.
"Derek was already here?" he guessed. "I may have sent him this way."
Sorry, Eric. You weren't just running a bar; you were running a supernatural employment agency.

"Not exactly," he admitted, which wasn't personal: It just took more than one conversation for him to call someone a friend. "But he's like me, and if he needs a job, I'd like it to be here."
For ... reasons. Important reasons, which Jack wasn't certain he could do such a good job explaining.

Eric was unhelpful sometimes.

"First, because I don't need to get into some kind of ridiculous territorial battle because he thinks I wasn't nice," he began hesitatingly. "Second, I'd like to have an excuse to keep an eye on him."
Without lurking.
"The third is that the only other lycanthropes I've even met are Mitchell's housemates, and you have to admit that they aren't any better at this than I am. Derek says he was born this way. He knows things." Jack's eyes flickered to Eric, wondering if those were enough reasons or if he'd need to come up with more.

Eric thought he was Very Droll.

"We'll even manage not to leave the blinds open," he said. "Since dust isn't much good for carpets either."
Then, more sincerely: "Thank you."

He didn't want to speculate what that might mean.
