A week into the semester and Zayne figured it was time to make sure the HELP WANTED sign was prominently displayed in the front window again. Although one of the droids kept trying to take it down. Eventually Zayne had to explain to it that he wasn't trying to get help to REPLACE the droids. It was just good to have an additional set of hands up front, and it was even better to help out people who needed a little bit of money in exchange for some work.

The droid seemed cautious, but accepting of this rationale.

Gizka Steak

Hopefully some new human eyes would realize that the word "gizka" should never appear on any kind of order form at all. But at least this wasn't live gizka.

Jaina wasn't looking for a job, but she was trying to be better about actually getting out and seeing people. So it wouldn't hurt to pop in when Zayne was working and greet him with a, "Hey there."

"Hey," Zayne said. "Don't tell me the gizka steak pulled you in."

She paused, a little confused. "Well, I was mostly here to say hi. Is gizka a bad thing now?"

"We had some on the island last spring. They left a bit of an impression," Zayne said. "But the steak is pretty tasty, so there's that."

"Do I want to know what kind of impression they were making?" Jaina wondered. Because what harm could a couple gizka do?

"It's a long story, but the basic point is that they breed like crazy and, apparently, they'll crossbreed with other things that breed like crazy," Zayne explained. "It was a very annoying week and a very painful one for our ankles."

"And suddenly I'm really glad I missed that one," she said.

No, she didn't. She'd have totally rathered been here dealing with that than be at home.

"It was a very weird week," Zayne said. "Honestly, I kind of preferred fighting monster lizards to that kind of thing."

"I had to get new boots."

"Couldn't make the boots gizka hide?" Jaina suggested.

"Honestly, I'd rather not have gizka anywhere near me, especially not anywhere on me," Zayne said. "I'm convinced the order of gizka meat was either a mistake or a mean prank."

"I'm surprised you kept it a special instead of sending it back or burning it in effigy or something," Jaina said.

"I spent enough time on the run. I'm not big on wasting food needlessly," Zayne said.

"Then I hope you have a lot of people in here today without gizka trauma," Jaina told him.

"Or at least the kind of gizka trauma that results in them wanting to eat them," Zayne said.

"Or buying them just to have an excuse to stab them a lot," she said, now feeling the need to look around just in case anyone actually was doing that.

"I hope my clientele isn't that violent," Zayne said. "But I hoped the same about my class last spring, too, and they apparently were."

"Hopefully yours is less so this time?" she said, trying not to be too amused.

"They're business students, so I really hope so," Zayne said. "Wait. I know business people. These kids might end up worse."

"Hopefully after they're out of your hands," Jaina mused. "If they get cutthroat along the way, that's one thing, but in high school... that might be the sign of a problem."

"I think I need to give a lesson on how not to be evil," Zayne joked. "Which will sound great since I got my start in crime."

"Or maybe you have next semester's class all set. Fifteen weeks of 'no, really, guys, less violence, less evil.'"

Actually some people here probably needed that.

"Actually, that's not a bad idea," Zayne said. "I think I can be considered an expert in not going evil at this point, considering how many people thought I did or would."

"Oh." She'd been joking, but. "You're welcome, then."

"We'll see if the idea holds in a few months, of course," Zayne said.

"So are you all settled in again after a week back?"

"Mostly," Jaina shrugged. "I got onplanet early in order to say goodbye to Ben, so I've had a little extra time. It feels like I've come back here so much settling back in is routine."

Ish. She had to work harder at it this time.

"If I were you, by now I would have bought a house and rented it out to someone to look after it when I'm not around," Zayne said. "Of course, I already own two buildings just here in Fandom. So that's probably not a shocking view."

"Jag would probably drop the money for a house in a second," Jaina realized. "I don't know, doing that would just feel... permanent."

Which wasn't to say she'd never do it, but.

"I can see that. But I have places to stay on three planets, plus a room on a cruiser. I'm clearly outside of the norm," Zayne joked.

"I have places to stay on three planets plus room on the Falcon," she countered. That didn't count Bastion, since it involved just getting a diplomatic suite somewhere. "I pay to stay in one of them."

"You have a much better sitution than me, then," Zayne said. "I know Gryph's ripping me off on my place on Coruscant. But it's a bargain because he's ripping me off less than most of his tenants."

"Oh, come on, Gryph. There are some people you just don't rip off unless it involves something you can take from them in a card game."

Her dad was Han Solo. Just saying.

"Life's a card game to him, so technically it's fair game," Zayne explained. "And he's got to do something for fun since he's gone mostly legit."

"You should still be exempt," Jaina insisted. "But at least you know about it."

"Honestly, everyone who does business with Gryph knows that he's coming out ahead somehow," Zayne said. "That's why he always took it personally when I scammed him into something. Mind you, he went along with it once he was committed, but he wasn't happy."
