The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Night

There was no ABBA at the bar this week. Thank god. No, instead the DJ was treating everyone to the dulcet sounds of 'The Immigrant Song'. On loop.

It was possibly an attempt to keep Eric from murdering him. Possibly just laziness. Either way, Derek was being driven up the walls. There were only do many times a person could listen to the same song in an evening before they felt the need to hit something.

Where Derek was attempting to murder the DJ with sheer force of will. It hadn't worked do far.

Now that song is stuck in my head. The version from the opening credits of the American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

This song was awesome, Derek.

Eric was glaring at you for a whole other reason.

Derek glared right on back. Because of reasons. Smelly teenage boy reasons.

Stiles was not smelly, thank you, Derek. He tasted of Mountain Dew deliciousness today! He also needed to study chem and that so wasn't happening in the dorms what with everyone licking each other. So he picked the bar just to be annoying.

"Dude, you didn't mention you actually worked here," Stiles said, sitting up on a stool and letting his textbook hit the bar with a thump. "Give me a Coke, barkeep."

No slamming teenage boys' faces into the bar, Derek.

Oh god, the glaring you were getting, Stiles. It was like he wanted to murder you with that textbook and then find a way to murder you again. Just because it wasn't enough to satisfy his rage.

But Derek put the Coke down. He didn't even crack the glass from the force of it. Possibly through sheer luck.

Stiles wasn't oblivious to the glaring, but he was so amused by Derek having to wait on him that he didn't seem bothered by it. "Such prompt service! Someone is getting a good tip."

"You realize I'm not always behind the bar, right?" Derek asked, 'smiling' at him. It was a very loose definition of a smile. Teeth were shown, that counted, right?

"I was paying you a compliment!" Yeah, no, he was being annoying. "What do you do when people thank you--punch them in the face?"

"That depends," Derek replied, leaning against the bar in a manner one might call 'looming'. "Are they an annoying kid who can't seem to listen?"

Stiles sat back a bit and it was only luck that he didn't fall off the stool like an idiot. "I...am not a kid. You might argue that, but let me take this chance to say that when you use terms like 'annoying kid' you sound like a Scooby Doo villain."

That'll help you Stiles, sure.

He didnt say 'meddling', Stiles! It was meddling.

Derek just fixed him with a look, pushing away from the bar now that his point had been made. "How old are you? Fifteen? Sixteen?"

"Sixteen," Stiles answered. "So beyond kid age and more into the teenage or young adult area. I will accept being called a youth if some old librarian is saying it."

Pinkie Pie was nothing if not persistent. The way she saw it, she now had a standing appointment at the bar on Wednesday evenings to check in with her dear friend Derek and make sure he hadn't gotten too super grumpy in the intervening week.

"Hiya!" She cheered as she came in and sat down, giving a little holler along with the song. "Do you have any sasparilla?"

"Kid." DEAL WITH IT, STILES.

He was never going to be rid of her, was he? Was this his punishment for Kate? It must be.

WASN'T LOSING HIS FAMILY ENOUGH?

"...I don't know what that is," he said after trying to stare her into submission.

Stiles took an annoyed sip from his drink. Acting like someone who had never used a straw before in his life, of course. "You know, another version of you keeps coming to this kid for help. Hope that makes you feel nice and grown up."

CLEARLY NOT.

And, really Derek? You thought you could win in a staring contest with a creature whose eyes took up more than half her entire head? Come on, now.

"Really?" Pinkie found that surprising -- and rather sad, really. "It's all fizzy and rooty and creamy and super tasty! ~~And I may have spelled it wrong!~~ What do you have?"

"Hiya!" Pinkie greeted, nothing if not friendly. "Are you another friend of Derek's?"

Derek was distracted by the abuse of the straw for a moment before rolling his eyes. "He must have been really desperate."

Werewolf burn!

HE WOULD TRY, PINKIE. MAYBE WHEN HE WAS AN ALPHA, HE WOULD WIN.

"...rootbeer?" He didn't understand you kids these days! With your strange slang and your rap music!

"Ummmmm." He had no idea how to answer that. "Are you a pony?"

"Yes!" Pinkie said happily. "I am! And you're a human!"

She loved playing "identify the obvious".
