Dite's Decadent Delights, Thursday Afternoon

It was Fandom and so Karla was used to weird things happening. What she wasn't used to, however, was being stalked by a bright green and anthropomorphized piece of candy that was demanding she hand over her coffee. While wearing a handkerchief over its...face? Yep, that was definitely new.

Worse? It was talking to her.

"I have a riddle for you--what's gelatinous and hecka' mean and about to steal your Mabbish Coffee? Hint: You're lookin' at him!"

Karla was just going to walk faster and ignore the...whatever it was. While wondering what the Hell a Mabbish coffee was.

"I'll get you, blondie, and your little Mabbish Coffee, too!"

Don't make eye contact. Just don't make eye contact. Karla wasn't frightened, just...seriously weirded out.

"When the JuJu Boss asks for a Mabbish Coffee, then a Mabbish Coffee she'll get!"

Oh, thank the Darkness. Dite's was right there.

"Your Mabbish Coffee or your life!"

Karla sped up a little more and unlocked the door, letting herself into the shop and then slamming the door behind her. The jelly-bandit-thing shouted "Noooooo!" as it stood outside the door and then vanished in a puff of bright green smoke. Looking from her coffee to the empty street and back, Karla just shook her head and made her way to the back room. She just didn't even know, sometimes.

...She might be savouring her coffee a bit more.

"I don't suppose you might have noticed some paper-thieving gumdrops outside the shop today?"

This was a hello. A slightly disgruntled hello, since a candy bandito just ran off with his lesson plan for the week, but a hello all the same as Jono stepped into Dite's.

"They got you, too?" Karla asked. "I had one try to mug me for my coffee today. What is it and why are they here?"

"If I knew, I'd have gotten rid of him. Little bastard took off with my notes for class. Not that I really need reference for a lecture about the differences between an introvert and an extrovert, but it would've been good to have."

Disgruntled. So disgruntled.

Okay, Karla just had to snicker at that one. "If you want, I can just come to class and we could be examples of each. The students could detail the differences in behavior between the both of us and draw their own conclusions."

"Not certain how well the students would buy that I'm all that introverted, considering how wordy I got last week, just to get people to give their introductions," Jono mused. "But then, I can't imagine they're aware of just how much downtime I need after a class in order to actually function again."

There was so much guitar playing with a cat curled up against his hip to be done on Friday evenings. So very much.

"Didn't even bother going into the office at the Boards last weekend. I'll be better about that from here on, but last week I was done for."

Karla leaned over to give him a sympathetic pat. "But you at least came out to get a drink?"

And then was promptly set upon by an aggravated witch and her phone, but whatever. He'd gotten a drink, dammit.

"Yes... Yes, I did indeed get a drink. Had the bump on the head for a day or two that proved it, too."

Seriously, Karla. Did he have to revoke your phone privileges?

Maybe if he used his, he wouldn't need to worry about revoking hers.

She sniffed at him. "I still consider it justified. You were a berk, Jono, and you know it."

"And you," he countered, "are picking up on my slang. I'm not certain I know what to do with that."

Feel flattered, perhaps?

"It seemed an appropriate word," Karla said in an accent that was an unholy mashup of Ben's Coruscanti and Jono's own Cockney. "You were acting like a berk, so I called you one. Savvy?"

...With maybe a little Captain Jack thrown in for good measure. The narrative apologizes for the result, Jono.

"... About as 'savvy' as I suppose I'll ever be," Jono replied, eyebrow raised, something torn between amusement and scandal etched in his expression. "Please, tell me I don't really speak like that."

Not unless he was drunk, at least.

...Karla decided not to tell him that was her version of Ben's accent.

"Sorta?" she hedged. "But still more understandable than that movie I'm determined to get you to watch some time."

"The one with the clever teaser trailer?"

Jono only vaguely remembered seeing the advertisement for the film that Karla was talking about. But he did remember that it had amused him to no end. He was still rather sorry that he hadn't gone out of his way to watch it, just yet.

"There'll be plenty of time to sit down and watch that one, I think."

"It was clever?" Karla wasn't sure. SHE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT PEOPLE WERE SAYING. "I think I can get my hands on a subtitled one. Or maybe with closed captions for the hearing impaired."

The way she said it, it was clear she had only ever heard the phrase 'closed captioned' in that exact context.

Painfully clear, really.

"... You don't mean to tell me that you can't actually understand what they're saying, do you? You've been around people with accents like mine for years now, Karla."

"Yeah, but back when you were really unintelligible, you were putting the words directly in my brain. Your accent's evened out some over the years."

It's like she was trying to make him drink or something.
