The Park, Saturday Afternoon
Well, Evan had himself a puppy, and puppies needed to go for walks. That much really was a given, so far as these things went, and had been since Evan had gotten Ozzy in the first place.
He had also, somewhere over the course of the night, somehow managed to inherit a talking swan. A really, really big one. But he was not going to let this get in the way of walkies, darn it. It just meant... well, really, it mostly just meant that he'd be lingering around the park a little longer than usual while the swan calmly paddled in little circles in the pond, close to the shore and as close to Evan as possible.
The flamingos were actually keeping their distance, today. Probably for the best, because that swan looked as though it could take them all.
"This was really not how I was expecting to spend my day," Evan sighed, attempting to get Ozzy to pay attention to the ball instead of the wealth of fascinating waterbirds. The puppy was having none of it, making yet another break for the ducks.
[Open as a park can be!]

Even if it had bothered her, which it didn't, she would not have complained. Instead she was smiling faintly as they made their way through the park.
She didn't see much of a need to speak and neither did Adrastos. It was enough to just enjoy the day.

"It's your own fault for taking him off the leash, you know," the swan was saying, sounding at once both ancient and young, and like on some level deep down, she really didn't have time for these antics, though she'd suffer through them for Evan's sake, and hopefully he'd smarten up all on his own eventually.
"I didn't think he'd made a beeline straight for them! They're the same size as he-- Yeul!"
Lucky Yeul, being waved at by the soggy kid standing in the middle of the duck pond!
no subject
That was a very polite way of putting it but she meant it honestly!
The tortoise gave the entire scene a look and then rumbled an unconcerned, "Try not to get too wet."
"I will try not to," Yeul said, equally unconcerned about the prospect either way. If she did, then she did. If she didn't, then she didn't.

The swan regarded Yeul and Adrastos both coolly, and then started swimming alongside Evan, a graceful, stark contrast to his gawky teenage movements and the squirming dog in his arms.
"Ozzy got kind of carried away, and I kind of had to chase him in so that the ducks wouldn't eat him or something."
no subject
Instead, Yeul smiled at Evan. "It is good that he did not get eaten," she said agreeably. "The ducks, I am sure, are just as glad he did not make it to them."
no subject
It probably had something to do with all of that energy.
no subject
She nodded politely to the swan. "Hello to you, as well."

"Nephthys isn't very talkative even to me," Evan explained, giving the bird a glance. She looked back at him, somewhere between expectant and tentative, as though she had a million things to say to him, and not a single one of those things could possibly be a good idea. "But she means hello."
He clipped Ozzy's leash back onto him, and then set the puppy on the ground. Instantly, he bounded over to investigate Yeul and her tortiose, though Evan held the leash back before he could jump up at her with muddy puppy paws.

The tortoise ignored their conversation, busy nosing at the plants to eat.
"I bet," Yeul added, to Ozzy, "if you could talk, you would have a great deal to say."
no subject
Kind of like Evan, but with far less restraint.
no subject
Unless you tired out the puppy first?

Yet she didn't sound particularly concerned, for all that.

Ozzy was going to demonstrate this by trotting over to Yeul, and then depositing his squeaky pork chop at her feet, staring up at her expectantly.
no subject
She looked back up at Evan. "What does he want?"
What was she supposed to do with a pork chop toy?
no subject
Because Ozzy was a bit of a ninja like that.
Nephthys made a bit of a derisive sound and ruffled her feathers. She'd already had to contend with the affections of a hyperactive trouble-puppy, apparently.
no subject
Which would be why she didn't immediately throw the toy but had to wriggle it gingerly to see if that meant anything to the puppy.
no subject
"He likes you," Evan decided, smiling warmly.
no subject
She was kind enough to not toss it at the water. That would have been mean.

Evan let the leash unwind as far as it would go, and then stretched his arm out to accommodate the rest of the distance. He'd learned his lesson about letting Ozzy off the leash for fetch already, today.
"Good throw," he offered, his arm stretched a good several feet longer than any self-respecting arm had any right to be.
no subject
More importantly was the fact that the arm stretching was... well, she had not expected it.
"It's a fairly light toy," she pointed out, after a moment's contemplation of this new discovery about him, as she smiled up at him before standing. "It flies well."
no subject
... was probably sane.
"It squeaks, too, if you squeeze it," Evan said, because that seemed like the sort of thing that needed to be announced even while Ozzy gnawed on it and made the poor squeaky-chop do just that with a gusto. "Which is probably why Ozzy likes it so much."
"Especially at three in the morning," the swan added idly, before running her bill through a few of her flight feathers.
no subject
Ozzy was, after all, just a puppy! Puppies didn't know better!

"Tiresome," opined Adrastos.
Though Ozzy was dreadfully cute while squeaking back towards them...
no subject
The swan muttered something unintelligible, shaking her head before just tucking it away under one wing. She was definitely of the opinion that the dog was at least slightly tiresome.
no subject
It seemed like a rather large decision to her, though she supposed that it was less of one for some others than it might be for her.
