Devil's Nest, Monday, 10/01

The last night of the moon was always a bit easier for Jack; the pull was fading, and he felt generally well enough to go to work. And he assumed Alcide and Scott were both home or well on their way, which would make things easier tonight.

He checked the inventory, then started sorting through the mail. Eric got a surprising number of political solicitations for someone who wasn't even technically alive. Jack considered the letters, but decided there was no reason to encourage donations to anyone until he had a firmer grasp on the politics of Eric's world.

As he worked, he heard Tiny come in to set up for his shift and start grumbling something about cucumbers and holy water. He decided it was better he didn't know.

Having calmed down a bit, Kate parked her ass by the bar.

She was still grinning ear to ear, sending out moddable & handwavy texts to people to let them know she was here, and it was her birthday, and had she mentioned she was here and she'd missed them?

"Hey," Luke said, sitting down next to Kate and immediately leaning in to press a kiss against Kate's cheek. Because he was affectionate like that. "Happy birthday."

That might have been a little bit more enthusiastic than he may have been expecting. He also got an awkward hug for his troubles. It was a bit clingy.

"Well I haven't seen you for six months," Kate shared as she pulled back, though not without a quick kiss on his cheek. "Not that you know that."

He's holed up in the office until just before sunset! After, he's otherwise occupied.

Kate was preceded by a barely coherent message about not having seen Jack in ages.

And then she was bouncing into the office and trying immediately to give him a hug, making a noise that was probably a verbal equivalent of 'asdfghjkl Jack!'

Whatever it was, she was obviously pleased to see him.

Jack looked equally pleased to see her, but puzzled as he gingerly returned the hug. (Nothing against Kate, it was just a bad time of the month for him to be physical with anyone.)

"Kate!" he said, laughing. "Hello! It's been -- two entire days!"

"Nuh uh," Kate objected, as she pulled back (subtly wiping the back of her hand over her eyes). "It's, um, been way longer than that for some of us."

Jack's smile turned into a concerned expression. She didn't look that much older, but ...

"How long was it?" he asked, in a gentler tone. "What happened, Kate?"

"Six months," she replied, expression turning a little more wry. If also grateful that she didn't need to spell it out for him. "I think our universe just righted itself in relation to this one, because it's finally the same date."

For the first time in over a year.

"So we got cut off for one night in your time... and six fucking months in ours."

"One more night," Jack said, looking tired. "But mostly, yes. I'm glad Scott and Alcide went home safely."

At some point today, Kate was probably going to not start an interaction by using the other person's name as an overjoyed exclamation, followed by bouncing over to give them a hug, whether they wanted one or not.

"Eric!"

This was not that point.
