The Causeway, Sunday Morning

It was Sunday morning, and that meant it was time to pack up and head down to the causeway for Fandom High's annual fall break trip. Soon, students and teachers would be picked up and shuttled to the nearest Portalocity station, from where they would take off to the lovely Kruger National Park in South Africa.

But now? Time to stack up your luggage, long for the warmth that was sure to come, and try not to shiver to death in Fandom's decidedly less t-shirt-accommodating weather.

Kaidan had been military for the vast majority of his adult life; he'd barely ended the call with his therapist before rushing to pack.

That meant he got to the causeway ridiculously early, for once not wearing his uniform (but an Alliance t-shirt and some regulation pants instead - big upgrade) and lugging a relatively large bag around like it didn't weigh anything.

Upon arrival, he put it down on the ground and sat down on it.

Okay. Africa. Never been there.

Atton stumbled in a scant fifteen minutes before the deadline, blinking against the light and looking like... well, he had a killer hangover, which he did.

Whatever. He'd settle for anywhere warmer than here.

Liara didn't actually have terribly much to pack, but she did have some of the dresses she had bought with Karolina's help some time ago. She had packed all of these in a plastic bag (in lieu of having anything else) and now she was standing around, looking a little lost.

She'd only just found Africa on a map! She didn't know what to expect.

"Hello Liara!" Yeul said, making her way over to the other girl. "How are you today?"

Yeul was too tactful to mention that she looked a bit lost, but that was why she'd come over.

"I am okay," Liara assured her, looking up with a smile that only projected mild concern. "But I do not know if I packed right for this trip."

And Peter would be over here, some bags at his feet, and his face bent over his phone while he texted.

Just because he was physically going on vacation didn't mean he was mentally going there, god.

"That is such a surprising sight."

By which Natalie meant that seeing him with his phone out even now was about as surprising as the fact that she'd packed three not particularly slim novels to take with her on this trip. So, not very. He had his thing, she had hers.

"Natalie," Peter greeted, without taking his eyes off his phone (it was nothing personal, honest). "I'm sure you've made your own preparations for the next seven days..."

Korra wasn't hungover, exactly, but she was just going to sprawl along Naga's saddle and let her do the walking for both of them.

Sleepy Avatar was sleepy.

Lex had a duffel with him, though he wasn't going to take his jacket off until they were actually somewhere warm.

Natalie had a bag at her feet, another slung over her shoulder, and a pair of sunglasses perched atop of her head, and she was ready to go.

But right now she was just standing there, casting absent glances around.

Karolina looked pretty darn excited to be here, a wide smile on her face.

She was going to be even more excited once they actually got going, though. She longed for the sun and warmer weather.

Jackson was a little bit hungover, which contributed to how he was already hiding his eyes behind a pair of expensive sunglasses.

Ugh, could they just go already?

So the problem with taking a nap on top of your polar bear dog was that that left the polar bear dog in charge of where you were going, and Naga was pretty sure Jackson had something to do with all those balls she wasn't supposed to chase.

So there Naga was, standing and staring at Jackson hopefully in case he happened to have a ball handy.

...Topher wasn't excited for this trip. Like at all.

You could tell from how he was looking dismayed as he sat resolutely on the ground and gave puppy eyes to his phone. What if it didn't work in Africa? What if there wasn't any internet there? And what if he got eaten by a lion?

These were disturbing thoughts.

Yeul was excited! It showed by the fact she was smiling as she stood, hands loosely by her sides, still wearing her unseasonable skirt.

There was no luggage at her feet though.

A week of no classes in some exotic location? Jim was totally cool with that. He'd packed light (he didn't have much to begin with) and that single bag was at his eat. He'd donned sunglasses and a cap and figured he was ready for Africa. Hell, he'd already started planning his vacation out.

It consisted of a whole lot of swimming, a whole lot of tanning, and a whole lot of girls.

It was possible April was the only one who was defeating Topher in lack of enthusiasm. Because she too was seated on the ground while waiting for the portal, but she was also sprawled on her duffel bag and asleep.

Look, she hadn't meant for that to happen. It was just kind of funny that it had.

Hopefully no one drew on her face.

Alec was actually sort of excited for this. He'd never been to Africa before, but as far as trip locations went, it had to be one of the more exotic and interesting ones that mundies could have come up with. Well done, mundies.

In the meantime, despite his weather-conscious clothing choice of an ugly sweater and khaki pants, he was drawing a rune on himself for warmth. Because seriously.

Mercy was beyond excited at the chance to go to Africa, though it would be hard to tell unless you knew her well.

Her bag was packed, she was ready to go, and only somewhat wondering if her coyote-ness would be a problem around the big game.

Hanna was so looking forward to getting away for a week. It didn't matter where they were going. If she didn't have to worry about work, school, and A, well, that was paradise to her.

Suddenly she was excited about going on a safari, something she didn't think was possible.

Stacey was maybe a little excited for this trip. She'd never been to Africa before, and she just hoped nothing happened to ruin it, like a natural disaster or the lodge being haunted or anything. She had two dates this week, okay? No lodge hauntings.

She wouldn't mind if it were later in the day right now though. Or warmer. Could it be warmer?

Yeah, so Victor was excited for this trip. First, because he'd hardly traveled at all and certainly not to Africa. Seeing a giraffe up close and not in a cage? That would be a day worth remembering.

Second, because it would actually be warm there.

He sat on his duffle as he waited to go, legs stretched out and trying to get a higher score on the game he was playing on his phone before he went out of internet range.

Tyrion had only a fuzzy concept of what safari and Africa even were, but it didn't matter. He did not turn down chances to travel. He read a biography of Nelson Mandela as he waited for the shuttle.
