The Rocky Bits [Sunday morning]

Olivia (or Olive -- the writers weren't great with continuity, but she was Olivia for the moment) stared bleakly out to sea, the wind whipping about her perfectly styled curls and yet somehow not tangling them at all. She should never have returned here, to this island, after her film career had tragically begun to sink after she'd developed her horrible skin condition. Her ephelides. Even the word had made her shudder, when the doctor had told her. It was something she'd struggled with her entire life, and she'd known, somehow in her heart of hearts, that her red hair had already predisposed her to this condition.

But still. They'd replaced her with a younger, blond actress with a tan, one who would never cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in foundation makeup, and Olive had been sent to the streets.

Now, she would stop at nothing to regain her spotlight. Nothing. She pondered her next move as she stared at the ocean. Was blackmail too far? Arson? Murder? No. She would have her career back, or she would die trying.

A single piece of gum was spat out at the rocks, just to make sure the audience knew Atton and his illicit substances were on the scene!!

"Well, well," he drawled. "Now who do we have here?"

"Ahem," Jessica said. She saw Olive looking all dramatic, so she scampered up to Olive's position to taunt and enjoy her friend's insanity as much as she could.

Seriously, Jessica was the best friend ever.

"Somebody looks pensive. How you doing there, champ?"

Olive whipped her head around to look at the intruder on her thoughts, and frowned prettily. "What do you want?" she breathed.

Because saying sentences with one's full vocal stamina was not nearly so dramatic.

Olive turned her face away from Jessica. She knew she should never have left her room without her veil! She was hideous.

"How did you find me here? I came here to think."

"A conversation," Atton said, drawing the word out. He took a couple of steps closer, and slipped his leather-lined gum packet out of his pocket. "Gum?"

"I don't touch that stuff anymore," Olivia said, closing her eyes. "It aggravates...my condition."

"So did I. Great minds think alike apparently," Jessica said. "Something troubling you?"

"But it might also take your mind off it," Atton suggested. "I mean, you only live once..."

"The doctors say even one stick could trigger an epileptic seizure," Olive said.

Because that was a thing, when you had a skin condition to worry about.

"Isn't it obvious?" she asked disdainfully. "My beautiful face has been destroyed, and my career is over because of my condition."

"You'll find the operative word here is 'could'," said Atton, whose writer had found a thesaurus the other day.

"If it helps, I think you look just as good as ever," Jessica said. "But I am interested to know more about this tragic condition you have. Hopefully it's treatable."

"It won't help," Olivia added, turning her face away. "Nothing could numb the pain. Not even gum."

"Don't pretend you can't see," Olive said woefully. "The ephelides. I'm covered in them. It ruined my career!" She clenched her fists, but added, "But I will have my revenge."

"Two questions. First, what's an ephelide?" Jessica asked. "Second, revenge on who? I mean, YAY revenge. Did but did someone give you this condition?"

Olivia gestured to the thousands of tiny spots on her skin. "I'll never be cured," she said sadly. "I was replaced in my acting career, by a no-good spray-tanned tramp. She will rue the day she tried to take my place!"

"You were ruined by freckles," Jessica realized. "Are you going to go after that actress with a red marker? Show her what it feels like to have tiny dots on her skin?"

"This is no trivial matter," Olive said, eyes wide. Like, really wide. "It's a serious condition! Ineed to have her taken out."

She frowned at Jessica, narrowing those insanely huge crazy eyes of hers. "Don't you understand that?"

"I completely understand. But if she's as cute as you say, I'm sure it won't be tough to find someone to take her out," Jessica said.

"Well, I'd pick you up a couple of yellowtail rolls, but those aren't cheap," Atton drawled. "Say, don't I know you from somewhere?"

Olive glanced at him. "Maybe. I used to be an actress."

"What are you saying?" Olive asked, eyeing Jessica suspiciously. "Do you know...someone?"

She had planned on doing it herself, but she could afford an assassin. She just had to find one.

"Oh, Olive. I'm in a comedy scene, you're in a melodrama," Jessica said. "It was a joke. I am completely making light of your issues."

"My name is Olivia," Olivia shrieked, because for this moment that was true. It'd probably change later.

"I'm just gonna call you Olly for the sake of ease," Jessica declared.
