The Beach, Monday Afternoon

Normally, Jack wasn't the sort to stick around in one place for long. His first class wasn't supposed to be until Wednesday, he'd never really pictured himself going to school in the first place, and just sitting around with nothing to do for a few days on end wasn't generally his idea of a great time. He'd have taken off right after the picnic, as a matter of fact, except that this place intrigued him.

Heck, it had surprised him. He'd had more conversations on Saturday at the picnic than he'd had in the three centuries since the Moon had told him his name and then left him alone to figure out everything else for himself. He liked that. So... maybe he was going to stick around to see what those classes were like, after all. Even if the handful of people that had seen him, the people who believed in him, were all that ever did, that was something worth sticking around for all the same.

He was grinning to himself as he mulled that over, walking along the shoreline and letting the freezing Atlantic water splash up around his bare ankles. Every so often he'd laugh, swinging his staff down through the waves, seeing how many droplets he could freeze before they fell down to the sandy beach. It wouldn't keep him occupied until Wednesday, no, but it wasn't a bad way to spend an afternoon.

[Ooc: I'm home sick and the internet is mostly functional, so open for people who can and can't see Jack all the same!]

"I would have thought the water would be cold this time of year," Yeul called cheerfully, once she'd wandered down to the same stretch of beach the boy was on.

It wouldn't be as much as Emily running into Jack than Jack running into Emily, as the girl was also ankle-deep into the water, staring at the nothingness, arms wrapped around her. She had already stood there for long enough that the water was not an issue, but still, it was pretty cold anyway.

Either way, she was too focused zoning out to either see or not see him. Yet.

Yeul stopped a couple of feet from the water and smiled. "Then that’s what matters, I suppose," she said agreeably. "Are you one of the new students?"

More like a fan of the cold, Emily was a fan of the numbness. Yes, it was a weird thing to be a fan of, she knew.

And while she didn't outright believe in such things, Emily had both seen and heard weird stuff already, and she was a firm believer of people being there and talking and doing things people did.

So if anything, Emily felt the air getting even chillier for a moment there, making her shudder lightly.

[ ooc: while I don't think she would really qualify, chances are she could probably see him as "just a guy", or maybe see him partly, or what do I know. Whatever works. ]

She bobbed a whimsical curtsy back to him; it seemed fitting.

"It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Yeul, Paddra-Nsu Yeul." Her smile went slightly rueful. "I do not have such a list of titles to share, however."

Though she had a few she would keep to herself for now.

"What-"

Yeah, snow. Like her personal doom cloud, but...with snow, not rain. "If there's some symbolism in this, I'm really missing it."

That wasn't going to stop her from reaching out to the snow though.

[ ooc: Aw man, then someone else is going to need to introduce her to him. Or something. It's a matter of time before she connects the dots either way. Just, not anytime in this post~ ]

Crazy Girl was going to slowly step outside the general snowing zone to give it a better look, slowly wading in the chilly water. "How?", muttered as she made sure that indeed, it was snowing just there.

And then Emily did what anyone would've done, really: she looked around, searching for a logical explanation. She didn't have such luck though.

[ ooc: Emily is already following the radio so she'll most likely keep an ear for what it has to say about this. Still, knowing and believing are not the same. She might keep running into him though. ]

"A semester," she said lightly, his comments on her name amusing her. "I started in the fall. The first thing I learned about was the Yule holiday." She'd had quite a number of people tell her about her name that first day. "My big sibling sometimes calls me Christmas."

Jack seemed like he might appreciate that.

"My name is spelled differently though; it’s Y-E-U-L."

Oh great, it was following her now. "This is not fun at all," complained Emily as she tried to bat the snowflakes away.

"Is there someone doing this? I would at least like an explanation." She couldn't even attempt to sound annoyed though. I might be a bit fun, after all.

[ ooc: It's like everything is going to challenge Emily's suspension of disbelief! ]

"Not really," she admitted, "but is that a bad thing? It is descriptive. Mine's rather deceptive."

In this world anyway.

The beach was a place of calm-- at least for Liara, who had found herself a little overwhelmed after exposing herself to such a great crowd that weekend. And so she padded quietly over the beach, alone with her thoughts--

Except.

Was that the ordinary behavior of human seas, that splashing and... no. Human water was quite the same as water anywhere, and there was something...

"Hello?"

She blinked.

"Why would you be blamed for that?" Yeul asked, watching the water for a moment. "It is in your nature."

That was probably why he was blamed for it but... she didn't look at it that way.

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-01-07 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Emily would take notes on that, only that no, not really.

"So it snows spontaneously, good to know." She didn't see anyone making it snow, so it couldn't possibly be someone, right? Unless it was someone invisible. There could be someone invisible, but then again, she would be able to notice someone even if she couldn't see it.

Kicking up some water, Emily spun around. "So, is that it?"

Liara frowned. There was definitely something there, in the corner of her field of vision... she turned her head towards it, and suddenly there it was - a snippet of sound, a flash of white hair.

Unthinking, she called, "Do I know you?"

Somehow she felt like she did. Or... maybe she was imagining things again.
