Cafe Luke's, Monday

Priestly was pretty much fresh off the portal from Momoko's coming of age thing, which meant he was not quite so much hungover yet as still moderately drunk.

Momo had been right to warn him off that sake, yo.

Fortunately for his finger tips, the cook realized when he came in swaying slightly that he was in no shape to run the kitchen and body blocked him from getting at the knives. He made the dishwasher get Priestly an entire pitcher of water, then stared him down until he got started drinking it. And then started loading him up with starches.

"Didn' know you cared," Priestly mumbled.

"That's because you're an idiot," said the cook.

Don't worry, his manic drunken phase is long over. He's now on the sleepy and slightly goofy phase.

"Potatoes," Karla moaned, coming in the door. "Good call, Priestly."

She was neither drunk nor hungover (thank you Sapphire!), but she was still pretty exhausted.

"What did y'all do while we were at the Host Club?"

The answer 'kept drinking' seemed obvious enough...

"Oh, you know," Priestly said, both arms wrapped around his pitcher of water. "Hung out. Talked. Complained how unfair it was we didn't get to go to the club, too."

Yes, he understood why. That wouldn't stop him from whining.

"It was a fun club," Karla said with a grin. "I got a fake ID out of the deal, too! And we got flirted with all night long!"

Which didn't mean so much for Karla, but Dinah and Momoko were getting flirted with, too. Which was important!

"I could have flirted with you guys all night."

This was a lie. He sucked at flirting.

"I don't think you've every flirted with me in the entire time we've known one another," Karla pointed out. "Hell's fire, I don't think I've ever seen you flirt with females who are not me."

"I can totally flirt."

Stop, Priestly. Stop now.

"I have got to see this," Karla said.

She did not believe you, Priestly.

For very good reason. "Well I can't do it on cue."

"Wouldn't you have been doing it on cue last night?"

Priestly opened his mouth, then closed it and scowled. "You and your logic," he grumbled, mostly into his pitcher of water. "You'da been drunk last night. Way easier." A beat. "Please forget I said any of that."

Karla was going to drag her eyebrow down out of her hairline first. "I'm going to assume it was poorly worded and ignore it," she decided. "Hangovers are rough. Do you want to take something for yours? I make an excellent hangover remedy."

Now there was a terrifying thought. "I have water," he mumbled. "An' pain killers. 'Mokay."

Aww, she really did! Her cooking was bad, but her potions were excellent!

...Not that Priestly could be expected to know that.

"You should go home early today," Karla advised. "And sleep."

"It's my restaurant," Priestly said. "I have to make sure it's running smoothly."

He really didn't.

More skeptical faces at Priestly. "Exactly how are you doing that right now?"

She glanced into the kitchen, where the staff just looked at her and shook their heads. Yeah, that's what she'd thought.

"I'm delegating?" He needed to work on not accidentally making things questions.

Karla wouldn't have bought it anyway.

"You can just as easily delegate from home, you know."

"But then I wouldn't be enjoying your sparkling company."

Karla looked at where he was clutching his pitcher of water and snorted back a laugh. "You do look like you're in the mood to be sociable."

"I'm always in the mood to be sociable."

Hey, that one was almost even true.

"And yet I'm not feeling the urge to call a few more people over and turn this into an impromptu party."

Of course, it didn't help that Karla was still pretty tired and her ability to be social decreased sharply with exhaustion.

The celebrations had been worth it, though.

Definitely worth it.

"Sometimes, being sociable works best with only two," Priestly said sagely.

"And a lot of potatoes," Karla agreed, going up to the bar and helping herself to more. "A lot of potatoes."

"Starches are good," Priestly agreed. "And they got the bacon bits."
