Wellspring Arms and Meditation Center, Friday
Today was a busy day for Alec at Wellspring Arms and elsewhere, but not in the bad way. And also, not in the way that involved doing a lot of work. Go figure.
First thing in the morning, the new suit that Kate had insisted on having tailored was dropped off, which left Alec in the unenviable position of having to choose between putting the suit on or having a garment bag slung over the counter of a weapons shop all day. He chose the former, which just left him looking like an unusually dapper weapons salesman for a while, but then he remembered the tie.
Right. The tie.
With ten minutes to go until the end of his shift and the start of the dance, Alec could be found hurriedly watching a Youtube video entitled 'How to Tie a Tie' and attempting to replicate what the guy was doing. He was doing a very poor job.
[[open shop, and yes, i do realize i made a weapons store post entirely about clothing. i apologize.]]

"So this guy I know called to ask about tying him up?" She joked as she came in. "What's that about?"
...sorry, Alec. Apparently that was hello now.
no subject
...unless you had met Alec and knew how flaily he could get. Okay, maybe panic-detection was possible.
Alec sighed, abandoning knot-attempt number six to set the tie down on the counter. "Is there any chance you know how to make this work?" he asked hopefully. "I forgot to worry about this when we were shopping."
Forgetting to worry was totally a cause to worry.
no subject
"I should've checked," she said, feeling a bit badly for the worry. "I can do it. Come out from behind the counter first? Cause you're looking pretty good so far."
no subject
Alec made his way out from behind the counter and held out the tie. "Thanks. And, you know. Sorry."
Because this request was a tiny bit embarrassing, yes.
no subject
Pft, apologies. Kate cared not.
"See, with your hobby, I'd have figured your family a go-to-church-every-Sunday family."
no subject
"Well, my family lives in a church," Alec offered wryly, bending his knees somewhat so Kate would have an easier time with this tie business. "But not one with actual mass services. So the dress code doesn't generally involve suits."
Hint: It involved a lot of leather.
no subject
Kate reached up to flip his shirt collar up and pass the tie around his neck. Alec was kind of insanely tall so that was made more possible by him slightly bending, tyvm.
"If the dress code at your home included suits, I'd be wondering more about your tying issue," she remarked. "Why a church then?"
no subject
Were you getting the super-special Mary Sue vibes yet, Kate?
no subject
What? Totally legit question, oh special one.
no subject
"Uh, no," Alec said with a small, wry smile. "We're called Shadowhunters, but we don't have... individual code names. I think that's mostly just in movies about people who wear capes."
no subject
She tugged him back low enough & looped the silk carefully through the knot and adjusted the dimple. "Nice."
no subject
He paused. "What, do you know any people with capes? Somehow I thought you'd... object on grounds of fashion or something."
That was really a compliment. Remember his old sweaters. He had the utmost respect for you and your clothes sense, Kate.
no subject
"Fashion is trumped by tradition sometimes," Kate said thoughtfully, smiling at his checking of the tie. "Like with capes.
And spandex."no subject
"But not when it's traditional to wear certain kinds of sweaters?"
No. Never.
[[YOU SAW NOTHING]]

Really, Alec? Really?
no subject
no subject
Not the same thing.
The leather totally counted though. So did the runes really.
no subject
Historically, no.

Kate looked down at her totally adorable flats. "Flats look weird when pointy," she replied. "But your sister clearly has awesome taste."

"And speaking of purple, thank you for the flowers," she remembered. "That was incredibly sweet."
no subject
He had no idea what to call it.
"...I keep wanting to tell people that story, but I doubt anyone will believe it."

Kate forced a smirk up at him. "Don't you mean a rogue chihuahua?"
no subject
He even threw in an eyeroll. Mundies and their weird perspectives on things, yo.
no subject
"Well, we are bored ruffians who kick puppies," Kate confirmed. "It's a good look for us."
no subject
no subject
Speaking of issues the mundies might have...

He better not be dissing
Arrow. That show was awesome."They couldn't arrest us for saying we're archers. They ended reg - I mean, they could think we're idiots, but"
no subject
for the sloppy meta, Kate. "I just meant that as far as I know, mun-- people outside of certain communities tend to have strong reactions to people saying they use weapons. That's why I usually use glamours when I carry them."no subject
"And two... yeah, okay. Civilians get weird around weapons." Kate shrugged. "It's pretty understandable. You don't know the other person's training or intentions. We usually had -" she changed the word quickly to avoid accidentally outing Billy "-a teammate magic us if possible. Which is what I'd figure 'glamour' is?"
Though glamour was one of those old words from fairy tales and elves. Kate was not going to ask if there were elves.
no subject
"I've only watched one episode," Alec admitted. "It seemed like they were making the aesthetics kind of the point."
Aaaaarms.
"And... basically. Shadowhunters don't really love the word 'magic' to describe what we do, but they're not... worlds apart or anything."
Man, Alec correcting Kate was so much mellower than Alec correcting Clary. Shocker.no subject
Her lips quirked at the correction. "Close enough for government work?"
Well, Kate isn't moving in on Alec's man. *cough*
