The Devil's Nest- Sunday

Jaina was back at work today and glad for it. Not that she hadn't liked Turkey, even if she had to do her share of camel-wrangling, but she felt much better just having gotten back to her routine. Which meant she'd been able to spend a few hours training for real for the first time in a week, and yes she realized that most people might find that sad and she didn't care. It made her happy.

What also made her happy was the totally normal music playing at the club tonight, because sometimes this DJ wasn't horrible to her. Sometimes.

"What'd you bring me?" Eric demanded.

Jaina was completely prepared for this. Which was why she set down a (very nice, thank you) box in front of him. "Bet you can't guess what it is."

It was dirt. Of course it was.

"Dirt," Eric said, opening the box to double-check anyway. "Because I'm brilliant. How'd you like Turkey?"

"I liked it. It was a little slow for me-" No gym, too many chances to be lazy for too long... "but the kids made sure to keep me on my toes and I got to wrangle a camel off a boat."

Look, at least it was a great story to tell.

Eric blinked at her.

"A camel," he repeated.

"Uh huh. Off the boat." Just in case that had to be said again, which it did, just because.

"Possibly stupid question: why was there a camel on your boat?"

"A couple of the kids stole it and decided to bring it on board because another boat had someone's pet dinosaur on it," she explained.

Eric stared at her.

"What the fuck is wrong with that school?"

"It's a conglomerate of people from like a hundred different realities, that's what," Jaina replied. "As far as I know the dinosaur was well-behaved, by the way."

She was pretty sure the teachers would have heard if it ate anyone.

"Very reassuring," Eric said dryly.

"It keeps things interesting?" Jaina shrugged.

"Sounds it," Eric said, "but no dinosaurs in the club unless they are prepared to drink enough to offset any stampeding costs."

"Is it really stampeding if there's just one of them?" she wondered.

"Yes," Eric decided, "especially inside."

"Of course. Okay, no stampeding dinosaurs in the club," she nodded.

"The things I have to check for in my contracts," Eric muttered, shaking his head.

"Just think of it as a way to keep you on your toes when you're as old as you are," she ~~teased~~ reasoned.

Eric made a face at her. "Just for that I will not thank you for my gift."

"Like I do this for thanks anyway," Jaina grinned.

"Point," Eric admitted. "So other than wayward camels, how was the trip?"

She shrugged one shoulder. "I don't even think I remember how to vacation right," she admitted. "And I wasnt very good at it to begin with. It was okay."

"Not enough bar fights?" Eric suggested with a little smile.

"I didn't even go to any of the bars," she said, just realizing that.

"Well that probably didn't help," Eric decided.

"Probably not. I work in one, you'd think I would figure to stop by one," she said.

"If only to confirm that this one is better," Eric said, nodding.

"Or to see one that doesn't occasionally have a gremlin on the dance floor or in the DJ booth," she said.

"As long as it pays its bar tab, dance, gremlin, dance," Eric declared.

"Easy for you to say, they don't specifically like biting you," Jaina pointed out.

"I think it's the vampire blood," Eric said. "They've only done it once."

"Doesn't mean they won't get you again," she said.

"It does if the want to live," Eric countered. "I'm not nice."

"I've killed my fair share if them. Doesn't stop them," she replied.

"But you probably stop like a reasonable person would," Eric countered. "I wouldn't."

G"What, you'd kill a gremlin twice?" she asked.

"And its family."

Cheery, Eric.

"I see this backfiring so hard," Jaina said honestly.

"Perhaps," said the vampire whose last revenge scenario had led to a guy getting his spine ripped out on live television. Eric wasn't exactly one to care about long-term consequences to people who weren't him.

Hungry.
