PROM! Community Center, Friday Evening [Part 2]

The party was well underway now!

The punch was completely spiked, the glitter was even more prevalent than it had been earlier in the evening, and the music had played "Baby Got Back" at least twice. Most of the strawberries were gone and the chaperones might have become less vigilant in their attempts to patrol the dark corners of the room.

And it's time to announce the prom court! Don't leave just yet on your ill-advised hook-ups!

Will the crowns have glitter on them? Are you new or something?

As is traditional.

Zoe hadn't had to use a hose on anyone yet, so she was genuinely smiling as she made her way to the microphone. "Good evening, everyone. All the votes for your prom royalty have been counted, and I'm pleased to announce that this year's junior class King and Queen are Cade and Jessica Drew, and your Prom King and Queen are Tony Stark and Stephanie Brown. Congratulations, and enjoy your shiny new crowns."

Laugh! Cry! Vow eternal vengeance! You know, the usual.

"Karking what?" Cade replied, looking really confused. He'd won Homecoming too and was beginning to suspect that he was doing high school wrong.

Not to "Baby Got Back."

It's that time of night. Proceed with caution.

Atton was partly responsible for that spiking - in that he'd given the bottle to Cade, because minimizing risk was a good thing.

By now he was pretty drunk, buzzing on faintly dark side emotions, and... skulking.

Approaching him was probably not a good idea.

Emily knew all about terrible ideas! Plus she had been testing the punch now and then until it tasted just right. Then she had tasted a good deal of it.

"Atton," she called him, perhaps slurring his name a bit "Just the guy I was thinking about." No, not really.

Oh, Emily.

"Really," Atton drawled, looking her way. "And what were you thinking about?"

"All kinds of things. This week has made me a very frustrated, very bothered person," Emily said as she almost tripped a bit in her pretty little dress.

"God sometimes I haaaaaaate this place." At least she was being sincere! Not that ever wanted to, oops.

Atton had just expended most of his moral fortitude keeping one underage girl from sleeping with him. Sigh. "I heard it's been doing that for a lot of people," Atton said, still drawling. "Poor children, falling all over yourselves."

Despite the pollen and the drinks, Emily could do better. A lot better; she could be frustratingly difficult, even. But truth to be told? She was tired of pretending and caring and waiting to get something back. So Atton basically hit jackpot, in a way.

"An' the worst part," Emily said as she lifted a half full glass with punch. "All this week, an' I get nothin' y'know? Nothing! While everyone is rolling around I just...nothing, 's what I'm saying." She drank the rest of the glass in one swing and barely manage to settle it on the table.

"Funny you put it like that; Mr. Atton Rand," said Emily as she leaned closer. "All cool an' in control."

The question was, was she hitting jackpot? The dark side buzz Atton was rocking right now almost made him more interested in messing with people than... well, you knew the alternate verb for that one.

It had been worse back in the day, but...

"Am I?" Atton asked, leaning just half an inch closer. "Wonder what's going on with that..."

Well, it was Emily's conviction that the only way to know was trying. Nobody said anything about it being either safe or/and smart.

Emily moved juuuuuuust an inch closer too, because she was very good on that particular little game. "Suppose I should be jealous? What's the big secret?"

"Well," Atton said, reaching out to brush some hair away from her face. "The trick is just to roll with it."

Admittedly, that was probably harder when you weren't Force sensitive.

You just be glad she wasn't Force sensitive, Atton. Emily's head followed his hand's movement, and then killed another inch between them for good.

A hand slowly crawled it's way up his chest. "Doesn't sound complicated at all."

Yeah, actually, they probably both should be glad. No telling what he'd do if she was, the mood he was in.

"I never said I was a complicated guy," Atton said, the corner of his mouth tugging up into a smirk. "But then again, I lie a lot."

Emily did not need the power to zap people, alright (what, does anybody would ever doubt she wouldn't go Dark Side?). Not getting horribly messed up in the middle of drunken flirting was like, the next best thing though.

"Words are just coveniently placed noises," Emily said, basically explaining one of her mantras right there. A finger pressed his throat lightly before reaching his jawline. "Actions, though..." Nah, you could fake those too, but it took a special quality. And if he had it, all the best for her.

"Actions are easier to fake than anything," Atton said, leaned in and kissed her. Seemed like what she was angling for - so who was he not to give it to her?

For now, anyway.

Just a moment before Atton kissed her, Emily smirked; she smirked to herself, mostly, feeling like she was both winning and losing an argument. She didn't have time to dwell too much into it since well, there was kissing to do. Emily didn't waste time, her hand moving to the back of his head, no to push but to hold, mostly because Emily's sense of balance was getting worse by the minute.

Honesty, she would take what she could. All of it.

For his part, Atton was being very thorough. That really wasn't public-setting-appropriate kissing - though the area had mostly emptied out as it was.

Then he pulled away.

"You know what?" he mused. "I don't think so."

He stepped back.

To say she was expecting it to last so little would be a lie. She had been keeping herself under control for the entire week after all. That was far for her idea of done.

So it maybe took her a moment to process everything. And then to not fall because hey, her balance wasn't cooperating. "That's just...mean, you know? I don't know what to think of it."

"Life's rough," Atton said casually, smirking. Yeah, he was enjoying this right now. "That's what you can think about it."

Emily was pretty damn angry, yes, but the truth was she also couldn't help but take it as a lesson, the kind she couldn't learn otherwise. So there was something like wicked admiration among the anger.

"You're cute, you know? Thinking that if it isn't you, then it's not happening." We'll, at least the anger was bringing clarity...and other things. "Should I cry a little, maybe?"

"Sweetheart, you just told me it hasn't been happening," Atton said, casually slipping his hands in his pockets. "But hey, thanks for the compliment."

He took another step back.

Emily blindly picked whatever drink was closer to her. "And now it's happening tonight, independently of whether you feel like taking part or not," she said as she quickly drank it. "Too bad though, I guess I was liking the idea."

Maddie had had alcohol before (thanks, Valkyrie!), so once she tasted the punch she knew full well it was spiked. That didn't mean she wouldn't nurse a glass of it anyway, because it was prom and why not.

Good decisions abound.

Because really, we've met you.

Flail, drunk people, flail!

And their various water-based weapons.

It's laaate here. Boo.

Hahaha the OCD.
