Sam figured he'd be heading back to Seattle tonight. These things tended to come to a natural end after the weekend so he'd decided to hang out one more day to see Ada off. He hadn't seen her since yesterday when she'd left the hotel room, leaving Natalie and him alone.
And then...yes.
Sam wasn't thinking about that situation right now. He was sipping some coffee and texting back and forth with Brid. He felt kind of bad lying to her about things but she really didn't need to know about the Natalie thing. Really, she didn't. He was sure he'd field enough questions about the welts on his wrists and shoulders.
Sam shook his head when she asked him, yet again, what he was doing and he sipped his coffee. She was stubborn.

"Can I have cookies?" That idea perked him up.
"No."
"Muffiins?"
"No."
"Coffee?"
"Hell no." She needed the boring caffeine. Shifter kids, as it turned out, had endless energy and an even more endless appetite. Go figure.

"Off," she demanded, and pointed at Sam, "And say 'hi'. It's polite." See her teaching her fake child (http://cubfornow.livejournal.com/profile) manners. It was a miracle. It was also a miracle that he followed some of that instruction, directing his energy at Sam for a bit.
"HI." Indoor voice was not a thing. "You smell funny." Neither was tact.

"Whatsit taste of?" Maybe if he kept Sam talking he could get a little closer, maybe Sam would take pity and he could try some... Maybe.

"Don't tell." Kate could hear anyway. But the thought to protect his adoptive sister was at least there.
"Can I have some?" See Sam? He was a great secret-keeper! Very loyal.

No she did not.
Kate eyed them both. "Are you seriously trying that when I'm right here?" Her kid was not smart, was he?

"She still hate Brid?" That wasn't a spoiler, was it? He knew that from last time.

They were getting on in years. Some pointless insecurities went away.

He hadn't seen Natalie since yesterday.
"She doesn't really know what's happening right now but I think she'd love to know she's called auntie in some future."
