jgob ; monday afternoon

Sam figured he'd be heading back to Seattle tonight. These things tended to come to a natural end after the weekend so he'd decided to hang out one more day to see Ada off. He hadn't seen her since yesterday when she'd left the hotel room, leaving Natalie and him alone.

And then...yes.

Sam wasn't thinking about that situation right now. He was sipping some coffee and texting back and forth with Brid. He felt kind of bad lying to her about things but she really didn't need to know about the Natalie thing. Really, she didn't. He was sure he'd field enough questions about the welts on his wrists and shoulders.

Sam shook his head when she asked him, yet again, what he was doing and he sipped his coffee. She was stubborn.

[post is open and sam is open for people too]

Kate had a headache. This weekend that headache had taken the form of the impossible kid who was practically hanging off her arm because he wanted to go back to the place with the burgers and fried chicken rather than towards 'boooooring' caffeine.

"Can I have cookies?" That idea perked him up.

"No."

"Muffiins?"

"No."

"Coffee?"

"Hell no." She needed the boring caffeine. Shifter kids, as it turned out, had endless energy and an even more endless appetite. Go figure.

"Do it and you're babysitting after," Kate warned, holding her newly acquired mug up out of reach of grubby kid fingers and enjoyed the fact that even with bouncing and attempting to climb her he was still that bit too short to reach her arm.

"Off," she demanded, and pointed at Sam, "And say 'hi'. It's polite." See her teaching her fake child (http://cubfornow.livejournal.com/profile) manners. It was a miracle. It was also a miracle that he followed some of that instruction, directing his energy at Sam for a bit.

"HI." Indoor voice was not a thing. "You smell funny." Neither was tact.

Caleb affected a look of intense concentration for several long moments. "Like Peoples and magic and weird," he declared. "And that." Coffee.

"Whatsit taste of?" Maybe if he kept Sam talking he could get a little closer, maybe Sam would take pity and he could try some... Maybe.

Ooooh. "I like hot chocolate!" Of course he did. "And sugars." He lowered his voice a little, "Julie gives me extra." Probably because making her guardians life difficult was amusing to her.

"Don't tell." Kate could hear anyway. But the thought to protect his adoptive sister was at least there.

"Can I have some?" See Sam? He was a great secret-keeper! Very loyal.

Yeah, Caleb didn't know if he liked it either. "... You said chocolate and sugar and... Mama said I could."

No she did not.

Kate eyed them both. "Are you seriously trying that when I'm right here?" Her kid was not smart, was he?

Ada flopped into the seat across from him without much in the way of warning.

"Hello, daddy-o."

[identity profile] necrostardom.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you can't really hide yourself away from me." Unless he wore his pouch. "Also, Mom said this was a likely place."

[identity profile] necrostardom.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"This and the boardwalk," Ada added, then shrugged. "Fine enough. Will probably be going back home tonight. Where things make sense."

[identity profile] necrostardom.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nah." But good luck getting more than that out of her on that front. She leaned back in her chair. "Things are cool, you and Mom aren't being as dumb as you were when I was a weetiny little slip of a thing, and I generally have a good time."

[identity profile] necrostardom.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's never really developed into a beautiful friendship between Auntie Brid and Mom," Ada drawled. "But I wouldn't go as far as saying there's hate."

They were getting on in years. Some pointless insecurities went away.

Ellie was on a mission. A sugary-doughnuty mission. That was promptly derailed (temporarily, at least) the moment she spotted Sam.

"Hey!" she greeted, wandering over. "Hey! Hi!"

[identity profile] kleptopathic.livejournal.com 2013-04-09 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"S'good," Ellie said, bouncing a little on the balls of her feet. "This place is neeeeeat." Did she mean Fandom, or J,GoB? Possibly both. She edged a little closer to Sam, squinting up at him in thought. "Hey! I know yooooou."

[ooc: WAY TO NOT GIVE ME THAT NOTIF, LJ, JEEZE.]

"You're my daddy's friend," Ellie said matter-of-factly. "From school. Mr. Sam!"
