The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Derek had only just managed to get all the glitter off his scalp and clothing after multiple showers and washings. Which meant tomorrow would be even worse than you might have thought.

But, for now, he was quietly celebrating his victory over the glitter.

With drink specials. Yeah, look at him. Being all fancy with drink specials.

He just wanted to work with champagne. Let's be real here.

Batman entered the bar and stalked toward a seat. Was he keeping an eye out for anything shifty? Possibly, but he didn't show it.

He sat down, let his cape drape itself over the bar stool, and placed his order.

"Water."

Aaaaand Derek was just going to stare. Because he was used to pink ponies and all, but this was a new sort of crazy.

"It's not a difficult drink to make," Batman pointed out.

"Is there a costume party nearby?" BECAUSE CAPE.

"No," Batman said. "This is just the way I dress. You should get used to that quickly and get me my water."

Jack had gotten a text.

It seemed like the kind of thing he needed to address in person, so he went down to the bar and took a good look at Batman.

"--oh, it's the same one who crashed into the picnic," he said. It wasn't clear if he was relieved or disappointed. "I was wondering if we'd gotten a new one."

"You want more?" Jack, Derek was judging you.

"If I'm going to make a special trip to the bar I do," Jack nodded, undaunted by the judgment. "He's ... actually rather nice. And probably listening to us."

Derek turned to stare. "In a costume. Is that supposed to be a cat?"

"I think it's a bat," Jack told him. "As in Batman. But I'll admit the resemblance is not perfect."

Batman sipped his water.

And listened.

Which wasn't hard because you guys apparently weren't whispering. And because he was a bat.

Batman lifted his glass of water to greet Jack.

And then he took a sip as if this was completely normal.

Jack waved, then took a step toward Batman. "Hello again! Tell me, do you ever walk around in normal clothes, or is it ... not done?"

"These are my normal clothes," Batman said. You don't call yourself 'Batman' and then wear a button-down shirt, Jack. God.

"Doesn't it get hot?" Jack was going to ask the practical questions.

"What did poor Nelson do, and how good does it taste?" asked Alice as she sat down.

Derek made a face before remembering the specials. "I don't drink."

But, you know, champagne. Can't go wrong there.

"You just make the drinks, alright," Alice said. "Well, let's find out then."

It was all part of his charm. "Which one?"

I enjoy his facial hair. An Ennis would have that facial hair.
